As long as it stays in the Eastend and in Denbigh, not much of a problem to taxpayers. My neighborhood has never been safer.

Micheal-N.N. You are one of the problems of our society. "As long as it is not in my neighborhood, I'm not concerned" Pull your head out of the sand. This is like a cancer, it starts small and spreads. Keep your head in the sand and soon it will be your problem too, but then it will be too late.

We need to build a bigger jail in Newport News, at least a thousand more beds. And we need to fill all 100 beds in Juvinile Detention. Last I read, there are 50 empty beds in Juvey. That's 50 bad boys that should be in lockup.

it's sad what is going on down there. i can't even complain about my own city's rising crime(Alexandria) when i hear bout NN. i grew up in hampton and can't say i'm surprised. hopefully NN crime will at least stall but something needs to be done.

I am part of the problem? I don't think so. My neighborhood has been around for 70 years and has yet to produce a murder and the cops rarely ever patrol here. I am far from the problem.

A-town - Don't feel bad for us; Newport News has around 200,000 people and the crime problem is limited to one neighborhood. It is a great city to live in. My quality of life has skyrocketed since I moved here last year.

The rising rate of homicides is everyone problem. Regardless of what a person believes. Eventually, this will reach Capital Hill and more federal funding will have to put into the criminal justice system in Virginia.

Michael, as Bad Deal said, you can't confine the crime to one neighborhood. The time of ghettos is over. No frontier exists between neighborhoods that prevents gangs from seeking new places to terrorize or that prevents drug dealers from seeking new customers. You and many people who think the same way *are* the problem. It's in East End now, but it can soon end up being a citywide problem. For a criminal, there's nothing better than an unaware citizen

Only one of the last four murders happeed downtown. Two were mid city and one in Denbigh. There was even one in City Center not too long ago, that one has not been solved and didn't get much media attention.

Yeah, call me when they start popping up West of Warwick. This is nothing new, just higher quantities. Same locations.

These homicides represent predominantly black-on-black shootings, perhaps gang violence protecting their turf for control of illegal drug trafficing. Newport News PD needs to respond more quickly on what has become a critical social problem with feral blacks who are out of control. It may take a FBI Task Force to bring this under control.

The homicides in Newport News are outrageous, but they will continue to climb. You have too many people that do not respect a human life. It would be nice if it all stopped, but that won't happen.

You can get all the citizenry involved you want, but these people don't care about rules, or society. They are ignorant individuals who romanticize about violence. They live the "gangsta lifestyle" because they think it is cool. You know, nothing is better than revenge killing for your homeboy that was killed. Maybe if they had involved parents and decent role models they might have turned out differently. Oh well, I guess the murder count will continue to rise.

Your thought process amazes me. Do you not ever leave your wonderful, perfect neighborhood? Just driving through Newport News to go to the store can be dangerous. It's not like criminals never leave their homes either. Wasn't it a couple of years ago that there was a murder in the Walmart parking lot? I can't remember if it was Hampton or NN. A man killed his estranged girlfriend while their son was in the truck. You could get caught in the crossfire while in the Kroger parking lot for all you know. In NN, crime and gang activity know no boundaries. Maybe you'll realize that when we end up with one of your children or grandchildren in our gang prevention and intervention programs in NN because you were too blind to see the signs that your perfect life might not be so perfect. No disrespect intended, but you need to wake up.

You know that from California? I dunno. Why does anyone need to be out at 3am unless they are at work? Why do their pictures have them both in a gangsta pose? Also, since when do good kids quit school? Sure, went back and got his GED. Question for ya. While he was not in school what did he do?

I know. I need to quit hatin' and disrespectin' the dead. However, they are not innocent. Anyone who says so apparently doesn't have a clue. I guess I can expect to see more airbrushed t-shirt memorials to all of the future "innocent" victims.

Daily Horoscope for June 4

Pisces

Relationships are kind of shaky under this Lunar Cycle and you may even get the distinct impression you're heading for a major showdown with a certain someone. Although this feels like a crisis, don't let panic or desperation push you into decisions you would normally steer clear of. You may think you've reached the end of the road, but this isn't a good reason to go off the deep end and make drastic decisions. Proceed with caution!
