George Lucas' design for new building is twin of Hearst Castle ...

This new Lucas building very closely resembles Hearst's San Simeon. Hello!

I don't get it, here someone builds some of the nicest and tasteful buildings to the highest standards in Marin, and is just constantly criticized. What about the Marcile Mile, or the BofA building, or the Red Hill shopping center,*those* no one has any problem with?! Maybe that *is* the problem, his buildings aren't in character these shining pearls of good taste and unplagiarized beauty in Marin County. So instead his plans are compared to the most goddy estate in California and further more when you're not granted an interview you twist his intuition to stay away from your spin zone in to that he's an eccentric recluse! Just wow. Small town paper.

The next thing you'll be telling me is that Rosebud is the name of his sled.

Really rich white guy builds really rich white guy house..boring! Why do these affluent types get to use up enough materials for a thousand houses? Maybe to satisfy the emptiness that filthy lucre brings.

If I read the article correctly it said the new building is a production
studio which means employment for citizens. It seems to me that
George Lucas has done far more good for the Bay Area than many,
his vision continues to provide work in wonderful settings for lots of
people. This new building is beautiful!

He has proposed building a digital film production building not a house. This will be a place of business. Like those multi story buildings that are in SF.

First of all, the building will be beautiful, as George Lucas has an amazing aesthetic. Secondly, look at all the employment Lucas Films has brought to the Bay Area! And thirdly, it isn't a home for him, it is a production studio. I say, good luck George Lucas!

Awsome design annd well worth emulating and indeed even copying. I'm sure there are those that would love another of those precious idiosyncratic mashups straight from CAD capabilities of Frank Gehry or Daniel Liebeskind, but aside from the fawning sophisticates, not many people actually like them much. Not to disparage all modern architecture because when infused with a sense of place, its surroundings and people's instinctive need for natural features, modern approaches can be very gratifiying. Renzo Piano's recent work comes to mind just as it stands in stark contrast to so many of the rest.
Keep up the excellent tradition in desing, respect for material and human scale, Mr Lucas. Cheers.

Good point. Except that 99.999 percent of the population of Marin will never lay eyes on it.

Once George's studio is built, the line of slack-jawed tourist will fill Lucas Valley Road. Unlike the other Lucas structures off Lucas Valley Road, Lucas Castle will be an easy view from the road. Lot of photo opportunities, I see, yes.

I like the fact he's quiet. I wish he would use the I.J. to post jobs--though.

I like his work. I don't know enough about him, nor architecture to provide the unique perspective that you chatterboxes have. It must be nice to have an opinion. I envy you all.

If George Lucas rented out his ego, the entire state of California would fit with room to spare.
