Protesting something that happened over 100 years ago and claiming YOU are the rightful government? Oh, yes, you democratically elected yourself the rightful government to take over from a kingdom.

The land gone, people having to move away, the aloha spirit being virtually non-existent are reasons to be upset. Do not confuse their actions for ignorance or laziness. This has more to do with sadness and frustration. We Hawaiians were a once proud and dignified people who have been been thrown by the wayside. Eh, "Happily Divorced Dad"- because slavery happened 150 years ago-should- does it make it right today?

that is silly mr.aloha and your response is exactly why there is a backlash forming in the public against hawaiians. You need to take responsibility for your own problems and fix them. Stop asking for racial preferences and handouts from the hard working public. No one threw hawaiians away. You are favored over any other race here and are showered with private and public dollars such as no other ethnic minority has anywhere in the world today. Just get to work and stiop blaming others for your own misdeeds.

Yup, I bet you are one of the people looking for the IRS Slavery Reparation payments too.

My point is, how can a democracy take over for a kingdom and believe they are the 'rightful' leaders? I would have more respect for them if they were the decendants from the last King/Queen. Oh wait, maybe they are actually decendants of the Romanov's and looking to take over another country since they can't take back the one they had.

My mom grew up poor on Kauai, but worked very hard as so many Japanese do. She doesn't get any special place anywhere. Certainly doesn't get a cut on real estate, even though her mother emigrated in 1900 and her father maybe earlier. Some part Hawaiians probably have some blood lines that were more recent than hers.

So, I am thinking of proposing that all those early immigrants - 1900 and before - get the same discounts on real estate that half-Hawaiians get.

This is nonsense as there are many examples of people who have left Hawaii and gone to the mainland and become quite successful. How were you "thrown by the wayside" personally? They had almost nothing and worked like dogs. That is what it takes, not self-pity.

We need to let hawaii go, not for hawaii's good, but for our own.

What legitimate claim could we have on these islands 2000 miles from our shores? It just makes us look like the imperialists that we are.

Is there some "costco" for real estate out here I do not know about?

You go and propose your Jap butt deserves the same benefits as Hawaiian homeland?

Knock it off folks. The Mexicans, the ones who are not already here, will be crossing the border in the morning. Putting on a MILLION MAN MARCH (remember those dudes) on the Washington, DC Mall, demanding we return CA, CO, NM; well, from the Mississippi west. Thanks a lot! Oops, almost forgot about Alaska and Puerto Rikka...damn American Imperialists.
