Should anyone buy a new harley? short answer: NO. Long answer: NO. Why buy new 'overheater' when the used market is flooded with bikes that run just fine? AND have the pipes already done, plus chrome doo-dads.

What is a decissiun?

My latest Harley is an '07 electra glide classic, black, the "batwing." I've got about 6,000 miles on it and like it quite a lot. The rear jug does run pretty hot, blame the EPA for that. I've heard some whining about the transmission but works fine for me and I really like the 6th cog. The fuel injection is flawless. The Crise control is better than my toyota by far. The bike's fit and finish is superb. Aftermarket service at Simi Valley, CA HD has been absolutely first-class.
I LOVE MOTORCYCLES! All kinds of bikes: Harley, ducati, yamaha, Kawi, suzuki, I've owned many of them, each had it's unique pleasures and pains.
Ride what you like and shut up.

i like evo's, never had too do any major work on either of mine. (i have heard some good things about the new ones though)

I have did the rice burner bikes for years. The first time there is a real problem. Just buy another one. I have had five bike at any time waiting for part for other country. With a harley something go wrong with the engine and a couple $$$ buck you get a new engine. Even if your bike is fifty years old. I like to see that happen with a rice bike.

HD perfected the TC88 no problems. I have a 2003 wideglide runs perfect no leaks. Why buy a new bike with 96 engine overheating and trans problems no thanx

I was surprised that while the article started put as a seemingly decent guide to buying a new HD, it kind of stopped right at the Touring models.

You would have expected that, instead of just listing the different models available, there would actually be some insight and useful info about the differences between them. Like that the Dyna has Sportster-type narrow front end and normal rear shocks and the Softail has the unique rear end that looks solid but the shocks are hidden underneath the tranny and so on...

Well, I'm perfectly happy with the all-out custom bike I built from a -95 Sportster but I must say that test driving the new 6-speed Street Bob I felt much more "at home" than riding my own bike... HD sure makes some seriously entizing products, regardless of the manufacturing date.

That's one big reason why Wal-Mart is so successful. And that's one big reason why most Americans don't buy or ride Harleys.
