You're going to tell me that McDonald's needed to borrow money from us because they couldn't get it any other place? This is a company that generates in excess of $5 billion a year in cash. Our government is so f'ing screwed up. It's beyond repair. Now the latest headline says the US will bailout the European Union. With what? More funny money? Buy dried food and bottled water.

You are right McDonald's brings in over $5 billion a year just in food sales. Plus another $2-$3 billion in franchise fees.

During the economic downturn, much of that funding vanished and companies turned to a federal government program for their cash. Many of the individual loans they took were worth billions and had short durations but were paid back and renewed many times. glad i could be of help, hobo...

Thank God the unions & government have saved all our jobs with the big bail out programs they have offered to all these various companies. I am much better off for it! In fact, I think a good cold glass of sweet "tea" would do just fine after hearing all this good news on how our gov. pulled out these companies during there time of need.

Bubba wrote: Yeah, the world didn't end so it must have been what the government did. The article was about the US government taking taxpayer dollars and lending it to select private businesses. Manufacturing is leaving this country because of high costs brought about by regulatory issues and unfair trade agreements made made by our government. Then, that same government turns around and distributes OUR money to select large companies to 'save jobs'. It's idiotic.

Harley Davidson received money, and then held WI and Milwaukee hostage by claiming it couldn't afford to stay there, getting even more tax breaks, while upper management got to keep their wages. UTTER BS!!!!

Casual labor is here to stay, two tier wages not just to get through these tough economic times, but as the future of the manufacturing industry. Thank you Mr. Wandell for setting the standard for Kohler, Mercury Marine, Briggs & Stratton, and I am sure many more in the future. A special thanks should be given to all the organized labor unions, including my own, for pulling down their pants and taking this corporate bullying. Unions today are not fighting for workers rights, they are just trying keep some form of revenue in these trying economic times, with cimplete disregard for the people they represent. Everyone seems to be turning a profit with the exception of the people who make it happen. Maybe someday the people on the floor will grow a pair and tell the union and the company to stick it!
