My Turn: Motorcycles are about more than just renegades

Full story: Daily Breeze

Motorcycles have been around since the late 1800s - if you count the first steam-powered models invented by the Germans.

You gave up riding because you had to wear a helmet or for other reasons?

I have been riding for 30+ years. I ride every day to work and home and still enjoy a weekend ride. The freedom and openness of riding hooked me as a teen and I have never looked back. I went down on the freeway almost 20 years ago but still ride. Thnks for a spin on the cycling story from behind bars...handlebars, that is..well done!

Nice story, but still so dangerous.
Just ask the guy on the motorcycle that was hit

Motorcycles are great, however groups such as the Karvers, which are taking over the South Bay are giving them a bad name.

Looking for the name of the used British Motorcycle store in San Pedro. Has a few BSA's and

rumored the original owners ashes are in one of the sealed gas tanks.

A link would be appreciated.

Motorcycles like Harleys with obnoxious roaring, vibrating twin phallic pistons are just gateway vehicles first to bisexuality and then finally to full on loud, air polluting renegade club homosexuality...just like Corvettes purchases signal midlife crises.

Hello, you're talking about my friend Cindy, and her dad "Wild Bill"! I met her twenty-five years ago, when I got my Ninja.

"Hey my Buddy Karl," she wrore yesterday. "You liking the written word, I thought that you might get a kick out of this great review for Century Motorcycles and my movie Harbortown Bobber."

"I want to have a benefit for Cindy Rutherford at the Warner Grand. Just working on the rough drafts now and expect to put it on in February....Thanks for thinking of me all of the time with your emails and words of wisdom...."

"Now that I am a superstar it is hard for me to get to all of my mail." "Please send me your thoughts about this...."
Cindy Rutherford DmnMark Williamson THANK YOU

Yes, what a fine story, from an inspired man in San Pedro. I'm sure he knows Cindy also, after so many years in love with motorcycles. I wish Bogert would finally make another trip to San Pedro, and look around in her shop. Plenty of great material, to write a few very exciting columns. Good for us, and good for the "Breeze" too, to increase it's circulation.

It would be a joy to go with Bill to visit our PUCH Museum, in Graz, Austria. Our bikes used to be sold by Sears, in the late fifties, under the Allstate name. In 1975 we won Gold, in the 250cc class. What a hot bike that was. And then came our mopeds.

Our bikes were just as famous, and we won the Gold in 1984 [U.S. Team], at the L.A. Olympics [re: Austro-Daimler]. Somehow Bogert forgot about that too; even though we were practically neighbors, on Torrance Boulevard [and Victor]. In Carson we had our other store, and also the PUCH warehouse.

And of course, as Bill had said, "Motorcycles are about more than just renegades"! How John Bogert would look on a bike, that is quite another story. But then again, one never knows; if he ever tried it, to experience that feeling, he might like them too.

YERY, VERY NICE!!! I choose not to ride due to the risks. That others enjoy themselves that much should be sinful. Being a virgin, I took pleasure reading of his fond memories with a twinge of jealous want. God's other toy...guns. I think I'm in the mood to go polish mine. Excuse me if I do.

Of course he knows about Cindy's famous shop,
on 16th and Pacific.
and he also wants to meet John Bogert.

Rider said in York [PA]: "The leaders of Harley have betrayed all of their loyal fans and employees. For years, working at Harley was a source of pride. No longer. The company is doing all it can to alienate its employees while its top managers rake in millions."

"Greed is ugly and Harley will lose its illustrious reputation because of the greed of its new management. The only way they can redeem themselves is to return to treating their employees like the valued assets they are, and to supporting the community that once proudly hosted this plant. If not, my next bike will definitely not be a Harley."

Thank you for the reply and information re: Century

I grew up in the part of the world were these BSA's, Norton, Villiers, Triumph, etc, motorcycles were originally built, hence my 'handle' Brummie. I happened to come across this store on one trip to L.A. and mentioned it to many folks since, but couldn't remember the name, so now I have it for many more people to visit and enjoy your hospitality. It's nice to see that in these fast changing times that enthusiasts have the foresight to preserve these reminders of 'better times' i.e. Greenwich Village,Flower Power etc to show our children or grandchildren, what we were doing when we were their age :) Thank you, again.

I'm sure Cindy will be happy to hear about that. She loves to be appreciated. As most of us are, of course. It's sad, that with all the progress we have made, our "Quality of Life" declined.

How to make real life more appealing to our young folks, and to inspire them, that is an art, considering all the competition.

One has to be a Lebenskünstler, to survive the massive onslaught of all these fake people and false beliefs. Even now, when their phony world is finally crumbling, it's difficult to wake them up.

I hope you come back one day, Brummie, to revisit the City of the Angels, and also Century Motorcycles, on Pacific Avenue. Should you ever visit Graz, the Puch-Museum is waiting, to show you around, and to let you see, that there was life, already a hundred years ago. Too bad we had to bury PUCH as well, in 1987.

The New World Order Corporations don't tolerate real competition.
But our Spirit is not dead, they only buried the old bones.
