Santa Cruz Harley Davidson dealership shuts its doors

Full story: Santa Cruz Sentinel

When Santa Cruz Harley-Davidson owner Mike James took out a magazine ad last month for the dealership's "The End of the World as We Know It" sale, he said it was meant to be irreverent and edgy.

No tears here -- the droves of loud and obnoxious bikers tearing down Soquel each weekend revving their engines in the name of freedom will not be missed. The local jobs and revenue will be.

But people, all the business owners in Santa Cruz are supposed to be rich people that hate the homeless. How could a business close here in the land of prosperity??

Well that was deep. What do they expect? Markup on Harley's, their part and accessories was shocking.$100 for brake pads when all of my Honda's are $30. Only a matter of time. Who's next? BMW?

Waaaaa you mean I can't witness aging, bloated, obnoxious old f/arts revving their throttles when they pass thru town giving you the mad dog stare and the retarded head wave. What about their insipid obese old ladies? Will they still be hanging their cellulitic b/utt cheeks on Soquel Ave for me to get a moment of nausea. Oh well I guess the never ending Loud pipes saves lives argument can take a break for a while

Correct me, but I believe this business was heavily subsidized with taxpayer money to open.

Am I wrong?

I heard that the owner of the business was a real A hole. Remember this is a small town things get around fast. Now go sell Mopeds.

So glad to see you go! In my opinion, the "Harley Rider" I'm so cool, I'm so bad, I'm so tough, I'm so free because I can roar my loud, obnoxious, I ride a "Harley" life style down your throat and if it bothers you, too bad because I'm a biker, and I don't care, so get out of my way, is such dead energy! Harley Davidson, the American status symbol that represents the "bully" mentality and the pack consciousness that supports it. Sure some nice people ride, but, in my opinion I have found that most of the personality types that embrace the Harley Rider lifestyle are usually the personality types that also embrace bullying others. I have known a lot of bikers in my life and most of them are power tripping, pro military, pro war, pro violence, racist ***holes.

Yeah, subsidized even; yer wrong.

Know what the difference is between a Hoover and a Harley? With a Harley the dirt bag is in the back.

It would be funny if Honda or one of the bigger compaines would get on the band wagon and buy the building and start a new dealership there???... way to funny for sure..........

I have a home in York, Pa. where Harley has one of it's plants (the one that exists only because we the taxpayers paid to keep them there, otherwise they would have left a long time ago). You should see the 'cool dudes' role into town for a factory tour and a tour of the museum etc.........give me the total shits and then they have Factory Bike Week there a couple times a year, what a bunch of doofus boys, riding a Harley while staying at Hampton Inn and sipping a Latte at Starbuck's.

This business location will get snapped up, despite the current economy. The Soquel corridor in the Midtown is doing really well as can be seen by all the businesses thriving there. It's becoming a nice alternative to downtown for people outside the neighborhood even. I, too, won't miss all the loud pipes being revved in a sorry attempt for attention.

Sorry, the Soquel business corridor is doing terrible. Suburu just went out of business. Does anyone know why. Other stores have been vacant for months. Takes two hands to count them. Where did you get THAT idea.

Phew! Now I can finally get some peace and quiet in my neighborhood. i think all the bikers must be heading for the fat farm to reduce their bellies, shrink their arses, and lower their cholesterol. That's a good thing! Maybe they should trade-in their hogs for bicycles?

The new Ocean Honda shop in Soquel was propose years ago when things were going well. It takes years to buy the land, get permits and on, and on, and on. Ocean Honda will not make it. But nice try.

We are in a recession folks and Santa Cruz must bear some of the burden....so buy on the internet from out of state vendors and let's drive the City budget to the brink.

Daily Horoscope for June 4

Scorpio

Today's Lunar Eclipse at the Full Moon stirs up powerful emotions during the next two weeks (as it has done since the Gemini Solar Eclipse last month), and it may not be a very pleasant experience. Are you feeling rather compulsive and obsessive? Financial issues could be a problem,, especially if they appear to threaten your sense of emotional security. Don't let jealousy or envy make you do things that will set other people against you.
