when I think of harley these days and the big Buell "go f#@k yourself HD" I think they have raped the people long enough for a product that hasnt changed for 100 yrs!!! A Victory bike has more American parts than any harley!! Now Honda has tipped the scales....as for getting parts for harleys forever... so what...youre just fixing another dinosaur that is no different than the 100 million or so already out there ..harley should get their heads outta their "biker" asses and quit trying to patent something that is so stupid!!! We just wanna ride and not be riped off!!

Thats progress!!!

electraglidecoop wrote: I also purchased a 07 FLHTCUI about 2 months ago. I was told by HD mechanics and the sales person(up front) to put in the HD race tuner kit . Then get a stage one air breather and also some larger exhausts . You have to do all the above and make sure you put in the race tuner and let the mechanic change the computer program to run richer. If you just put on the pipes without the race tuner you can damage the bike . I saw a guy destroy his engine that way. MY HD screaming eagle race tuner was put in first. This did cool down the pipes. I havent put on the other stuff yet ($$$$) but picked up the stage one kit the other day, and the slip on (RUSH brand) mufflers are on the way. I love the bike but have a nice scar on my calf from when my pant leg rode over my boot one time. I am also geting a noise in the top end of the engine (VALVES?)when at 2800 to 3000 rpm. I have to burn 93 octane gasoline. I am going to give HD every chance and god help me if it don't work. My mechanic says he will adjust the computer to get rid ot the noise this week . I can keep you posted. Good luck Is it right that we had too paid for this went we pay to ride the H/D and the company know about the problem I own A 110 scraem E FLHTCUI 2 it overheats /tran make noise the valves make noise and I have only 15,000 mi

To completely solve the over-heat problem, just sell the antique design and buy a liquid cooled bike. I rode all summer in scortching heat and the engine temp was not an issue.

O.K so I'm a dumb ass now. The truth is I love Harleys. Nothing is more beautiful, or stirs my 'want' more. But there is a problem. It's a complete love-hate thing. I read a blog like this and can't help wondering why there are so many unhappy Harley owners. The local classifieds here have more Harleys for sale than any other brand. Harley has to build a new air cooled engine or they're doomed. Victory's engine doesn't look quite as good with it's overhead cams, but it's a much better engine. Harley needs to make a change similar, or it will suffer. I'm sure they're engineers know they have a big problem. They just have to find a way to fix it without looking like they're following. They have their pride you know.

Yeah. 2010 ain't no better. Even after a ThunderMax with Autotune ECM (was 14.9 ratio..now 12.8 to 13.8), new exhaust and free flow. The oil temp is 230 to 250degrees. Head temp hit 336 once. My crotch and right inside thigh sweats like crazy. After many decades, this will be my last Harley. Oh...and i ride. It ain;t me...it's the puke bike. Had enuff of them to know. But I will quit riding rather than to do any other bike.

No reason you can't ride the older Harley's for as long as you can and then pass it down to the next generation. A Harley can last a lifetime if you look after it and fix it when it's broke. No need to give up riding cause Harley lost their direction.

What was the last year of decent Harleys. No running to hot, no gearbox noise issues, no destructing cams, no road weave? That would seem to be the year to look for used.

It would be difficult to find a year for the "perfect" bike but finding a good used machine at a reasonable price, and making the necessary upgrades is a lot cheaper than buying a new model and still have to do the upgrades. I am more than pleased with my 03 Electra Glide. It is 88 cu in and doesn't generate the heat problem found in a lot of the 96's. I have no gearbox noise issues but it did have the destructing cams and harley wobble. By paying about half of what a new bike would cost, I could afford to replace the destructive cams (actually the problem is the cam chain adjusters and bearings), with gear driven cams and the wobble or road weave as you called it, was corrected with a Progressive stabilizer. I now have a good handling, dependable bike that I hope to ride for many years to come.

The paint on the engine fins is fading fast, and I park it in a garage so its not the sun..... When I go back to the dealer to ask about the problem, all I get is "what problem". Yet when you look at their showroom they have a ton of bikes then can not move, and you can see that the problem with the California bikes are taking a toll on sales as well as Harley's Stock price. I have noticed this in a number of West coast Harley shops. They know there is a problem with the bikes due to the EPA issue and all they really have to do to get the oweners happy about riding the Cal Harleys is to maybe offer some deals on SERT kits, or installations. Owners should not have to pay another $1500 out of their pockets to make the bikes run properly. <quoted text> Have a 2010 Heritage and you will not get a cooler engine even of you pay the big bucks. With free flow intake, non-radical baffled exhaust and a ThunderMax ECM with AutoTune, my oil temp can be 250-270deg and head temps last night reached 375deg !!! Engine check light came on and didn;t go off until I got out of stop-n-go traffic. I had to putt around for 15min. In 43yrs and 23scooters I have never had a motorcycle (or even car) get an engine check light. My air fuel ratio varies beftween 12.8 and 13.8 thruout rpm ranges...my rear ccylinder is 2 degrees retarded timing. So reducing the AFR from 14.7 didn't fix what I thought it would. Does it run steady and powerful...yes. Is it uncomfortable, unrideable, and dangerous...you bet !!! I wouldn't own anything past 2005 and I this will be my last Harley. It will probably never sell. FYI...ThunderMax is the best ECM avail now and I would highly recommend it to show you the computer results of how bad that engine really is. I think a class action is on the horizon.

There's alot of talk about 07's and 08's over heating. My 03 softail has been over heating over the past two summers. HD has an oil update kit replacing oil pump, lifters, cam plate etc. I road for just about 80 miles and my oil light came on again and had lifter tick and exhaust was loud. Any thoughts?

My 08 FXDC performs flawlessly, and i have yet to experience any excessive heat or even have the rear cylinder cut out at idle. 28k miles, and ive needed only tires and maintenance. its worth mentioning that im an adult and i behave like one.Unless you ride like one of these sport bike douchebags, you'll likely have no problems..if you think race leathers and plastic "motorcycles" are cool, be sure to splatter your dumb-ass self far away from me,'cause I'll just laugh at your multi-colored corpse..

I've a F.X.D 07 with 40ks and I live in the tropics Australia, ride like I mean it, and have no heating probs. It has a race tuner, v and h slipons and heavy breather. Now I will go to a 120r, as I read from H.D, posts that they are much easier to ride, and did ride one in a '010 superglide, and I'm rapt. Cheers.
