What about the AMERICAN PRIDE we stood with you thru hard times. Now you want to move? I doubt I,ll ever buy another Harley if its made in another country there will be no pride!!!!!!! I'm sure that HD has not forgotten where they buy their parts from. When Rescued, the first item of business was to restore the quality to machines that had become a disgrace when HD was a part of AMF. They started by immediately buying superior quality parts from all over Europe and Japan. Do you think an India Buyer cares where these parts are assembled? I think not. MOST of the 12 million Indian motorcycles sold each year are made either by Honda (and the reset of the Japanese) or by a joint venture with Honda, such as Hero Honda (which by the way is being dissolved as Honda builds a 2nd manufacturing plant). Indian buyers, like Americans, haven't got a clue where all those parts on their HD motorcycle comes from. Harley-Davidson has done an excellent job of concealing the fact that their machines are usually copies of foreign designs, and are(now)always made with foreign parts.

The tires on all models come from overseas, the electronics come from overseas, and on any new models all the nuts and bolts come from overseas. So the Icon of American made really goes to Polaris and there Victory model motorcycles more than a Harley Davidson. So do the forks, shocks etc. The engine on the Vrod was designed for HD by Porsche. This is probably due to the upcoming air pollution regulations which air cooled engines cannot achieve.

When AMF bought Harley, they abused the market and drove the once-proud Harley Davidson name into the shitter. The name was revived by Americans who want to own something uniquely American. The big V-twin air-cooled motor is an American standard. Very few countries in the world have average roads that the heavy bikes American bikers love can ride. If Harley is going after the foreign market for the purpose of selling to the person riding along the average road there, they have to change the design. The Road Kings and Soft Tails are too heavy to run those roads regularly. So, how does Harley intend to support the traditional American market that loves to cruise along the superb American roads? I ride HD, and I ride custom bikes I assemble myself. I love my HDs. I prefer Dyna-design. But, if Harley takes my patronage for granted, my next bike will be something else. And everyone I ride with, that's a lot of people, think the same way. We wish them luck, thank them for what they did, but they're on their own out there now. If they want to come back, they'll have to grovel a little to be reaccepted by the people who are responsible for what they are today. Come back, brother. We're all family... and American family.

This company sold out. They are following every other company here in united states - i guess they don't want anyone to work here in the U.S. to make money so i guess what Harley-Davidson and other huge companies that make products --- we can't make money so we can't buy your products!! Its disgusting and shameful and it's also about greed from the upper management and that CEO that Harley has no regard for the working man. The people that worked for Harley years ago and bought out Harley from AMF are gone from the picture - so now these greedy bastards are ruining this company - I owned Harleys also but guess what everything i own Harley is going bye bye and i WILL NOT buy any more Harley products so long this is going on. Harley, this will bite you in your ass!!!!

So the most iconic 'merican made product is now being further outsourced. Gotta love our high corp tax rates, union socialists and over regulation by agenda driven bureaucrats. With my '57 - 93' rigid shovel, I was able to say,'Puck the factory'. Now with '06, I have alot of work to do to be able to say,'Puck the factory'. Regardless my,'06 is getting a Bendex. This is more disgusting then the AMF buy out. May all the toy haulers get a flat on the way to Sturgis,

Regardless it is a shame Harley is going to outsource to india. If they do it is not a union problem. You see the union does not run the business. The company does. If the wages are too high then it is time to negotiate. If the materials are too high it is time to negotiate. If you blame some other entity for your business troubles then you are a poor business person. If you are childish you will blame everyone else!.....

First, this piece of news that Harleys are going to "built" in India is "Total Crap". In India, we have our government frame rules that are pro-local industry and hence have a customs duty of 120% on any motorcycle, imported in CBU condition.Hence, something like the V-Rod that retails for 20k(USD) in the US, ends up costing 45k in India. However, the customs duty on motorcycles imported as CKD, is a lesser 60% so the V-Rod can be more "economical" at 35k, when imported as CKD(completely knocked down kits) which is exactly what H-D has just set-up just outside New Delhi, a a CKD assembley factory that will put together the chassis, engine and body parts for sale in India. This factory is totally small scale and will employ only about 100-150 people considering H-D could probably sell only about 150 motorcycles/year in India.
Also, all other important H-D markets in Asia like China,S'pore, Malaysia, UAE etc are more open/free(very less import duty) to make any sense to import these India-Assembled motorcycles.
So H-D is definitely not making motorcycle in India only assembling them.

Iguess Harleys are now an intenational bike, like mopeds, vespas and yakawsukies. Anyone have a rigid pan for sale with a tool kit and a rifle scabard,
