My pastor was driving around his little children that evening to get them to fall asleep, and he passed this horrific scene just after it happened.

He knelt before Melody and prayed over her, while she was still conscience, while the father was screaming for his daughter and the drunk motorcyclist was crying out in pain.

This accident was a tragedy... Shame on the courts for their continued leniency for past charges. Such a horrible tragedy did not have to happen. He deserves life in prison.

My heart goes out to this family. A sweet girl like Melody will surely live on in the hearts of so many people. I cannot express my horror and sadness at what the family is feeling right now. I will pray for all invovled.

I can't imagine what this poor family is going through. My heart aches for the father every day. I have children myself and I don't know how any parent can recover from such a tragic loss. I hope with the love of his family, friends and neighbors he can find peace.

The guy should be put away, period. The motorcycle has nothing to do with it ... he has a substance/drinking problem, as well as behavior problems and would have killed someone eventually even if he was in a car or a truck. Don't people who walk across streets these days make eye contact with people in vehicles before crossing? Can't you hear motorcycle engines and pipes and realize when they are not shifting down? Regarding MADD, I believe the woman who spear headed that group was pulled over recently for drunk driving ... it doesn't surprise me one bit.

By the way, it's perfectly legal in California for a motorcyclist to "split lanes" in traffic as long as it isn't over 30 miles per hour. As for the loud pipes, they are loud for a reason ... so that idiot drivers who are not paying attention to the road will HEAR them coming and wake up. Motorcyclists want YOU to hear them so that you will then SEE them. Similar to what smart bicyclists do ... wear BRIGHT colors so that you SEE them. Got it?

My heartfelt condolences to this family and to the people that knew and loved this young child. Prayers for physical and emotional healing to the father and prayers for the mother for easing her obvious pain in the loss of her beautiful child and strength to get through each waking moment. The days and months and years ahead are going to be difficult, to say the least. I pray for a good support system for this family.
