Chop off his arms and legs so he can not do this this again. And put him into SQ for a play toy.

This is an awful, trajic circumstance. My heart goes out to the father of this little girl and the rest of their family. Hopefully Edward Schaefer will never see roads or regular society again.

First, my deepest condolences to family and friends for this pointless tragedy.

According to the IJ:

"Eastbound San Marin Drive goes uphill before leveling out at the intersection, making the crossing difficult to see, but a street sign alerts motorists to the approaching stop sign."

What?

Anyone who lives in Novato knows about this intersection and it is not hard to see the stop signs. The incline leading up to it makes stopping EASIER.

Shaefer was super-drunk, irresponsible, destroyed a family, and community forever by his actions.

He deserves a life sentence. He handed his victims far worse.

I agree. There are stop signs all through San Marin and several are just streets apart especially by the high school. I drive by there often and am always very careful. Every stop is carefully marked and night drivers should be even more careful.

Condolences to this family. This is so sad.

Yep. I always drive slowly and defensively on San Marin Drive. Too many people, stop signs, driveways, schools, KIDS....

But none of that enters the mind of a blitzed driver I guess.

The courts really need to send Schaefer away for good. He already had a second chance and the Osheroffs don't get one.

Even more sad is that this type of criminal rarely has any remorse. In jail/prison he will be totally focused on his own needs and most likely crying for pain meds. as he did when downed on his bike, even though his two victims lay nearby gravely injured.

He may have been in an alcoholic "blackout" and won't remember a thing or at least will claim he doesn't remember.

Condolences to the family of this horrible tragedy.

Ed Berbarian, please do your very best to see that this drunk criminal gets what he deserves. He has so cold heartedly dished out pain and suffering to an incomprehensible degree. Our law tells us that we must treat this man fairly and without pain and suffering, so we shall. Please make sure this man is no longer in our society and gets the longest prison term possible.

As a parent and simply as a human being, my heart goes out to this family. I feel ill just reading this. This is completely unacceptable. The motorcylist needs to be put away.

Its not hard to see the stop signs, agreed - but coming up that hill - you can't see the intersection until you are about 100 ft. from it. No matter though, as he had reportedly blown through the stop signs at the other end of San Carlos and San Ramon while on San Marin drive. He wasn't stopping for anything...

I can't stop thinking about this and especially about the dad. He is in so much pain now and all he will be able to think about is his little girl. There is something so touching about a dad and his little girl out walking, maybe they had gone for an ice cream or something.

They were just happy to be heading home and took the safe path at the stop sign and cross walk. Then the monster came along...

And this sweet life ended for no good reason.

I don't know these people but I am really so upset about this. Sorry to go on so much. Good night!

This story makes me sick too... The Novato filth strikes again.

Whomever let this scum out of prison (unless his domestic violence offense happened a long, long time ago) is partially responsible for this. Sounds like he was a disaster waiting to happen.

'You Done' was right on with the idea of chopping the arms/legs off and making him a San Quentin play toy. The whole situation is just disgusting. That poor family...

It seems that the drunk driver comes through the accident with little physical damage. I heard that he's at Marin General. Maybe someone would like to pay him a visit?

Very sad. I blame the failed Bush administration.

My entire Family's, thoughts and prayers go out to the entire family and father and mother of this little girl.

As for the scumbag on the bike, he should be placed in a wood chipper feet first, life in prison would be letting him off to easy!

As for someone who lives on this block of San Marin Dr and sees drivers going 50 to 60 mph, maybe its time to realize that this is a family neighborhood, that is now shattered thanks to this scumbag, Please Slow Down, Family's that live here will never be the same.

Family matters require your attention during the coming fortnight, as the eclipse cycle demands some tough decisions regarding the pressures of home and career.
