Power Hours- hmmmmmmm, how about having people on the floor all the time, not emptying out at 4pm, to leave a few people to run the stores, now open until 10 pm. Schedulers are now taking the High Energy people off the floor/ Dept. to have them stand at the front for 4- hours at a time. While the slackers are in the break rooms. Try to find someone to load a washer at 6pm, or 20 bags of mulch. The management leaves a 4pm, giving the stores over to a Managers on Duty, meaning: someone that has to do their job, plus that of the overpaid Manager.

Yes.....it is really sad. At our store after 5 to 6 PM there is scant coverage. Working in hardware I usually am the only one to cover HW, lumber/building materals and plumbing. I hate working nights until 10......no one to assist you if you need help.

the greeter position is a humiliating position. it says hey look at me--i don't have a real job in this store. and as a customer walking into the store, you are apparantly too stupid to get yourself a cart or a flyer if you want one. usually the first question out of a customers mouth was "wheres the bathroom". i had one customer ask if i drew the short straw, one customer asked if we give out stickers, cuz this is just like a walmart greeter, and one customer asked why i was getting tied to the whippin post! i think it is financially irresponsible when on a slow day, you have associates walking around twiddling their thumbs because it's "power hour" and we as associates couldn't even stop for a minute with a fellow associate. NO TALKING ALLOWED! had to be constantly on the prowl, looking for our next victim.

i agree--people coming in still drunk, smokin on their lunch. asm's partying with associates, managers partying with dm's. talk about unethical. if your not part of the "boys club" then you better watch your back!

My past 3 years experience has shown that ASM's (at least in the stores that I have worked in) are no more than sub standard individuals. When there is a problem in a store, I can rarely find or contact an ASM to solve a problem! They love to hide from the public (customer) and definitely afraid to say NO to a customer. They rarely use common sense in dealing with a customer. They kowtow to the customer rather than make a professional business decision. They are subservient to the customer when the customer is clearly in the wrong. To make it short, the ASM has a total lack of common judgement and rather relies on the fears of Corporate Wow... seriously? Maybe you haven't ever heard that, "the customer is always right." If you piss off a customer by not giving them what they want over a 10.00 item, then they'll tell their friends not to go to you. It's about giving the customer a great shopping experience, not about your personal pride or making a "professional business decision." Good or bad experiences w/ a business cause chain reactions... and ultimately lost or gained business. And, usually the bad far outweighs the good.

They and dumber than the ASMs. Can't expect the Store Manager to do anything constructive. Sell all your stock now before it's too late.

Are HD stores really trying to operate w/o ASM's?? AS a former HD employee I'm saddened to see what this company has turned itself into. But to think of the company running w/o ASM's is a strange thought. Then again, I worked there during a different time when people actually liked coming to work and the company somewhat cared for you. People actually got helped when they came to shop! They even payed above retail standards. Problems start at the top and the s*!t obviously rolled downhill over the years. HD always had some great people working for them. I've met some of my best freinds over 15 years ago that I still have today. Hang in there folks, maybe things might turn around. The economy hasn't helped. But you have to remember, the Bernie and Arthur days are gone, if you even ever heard of them. The fat cats running the company now I'm sure have to maintain their lifestyle which means do more with less. This is at the expense of their most VALUABLE asset..YOU!
