Judged: 1 1 1 Henry Russell (SM) and Larry Evans (HR) hate gays. Lacy (gay) was fired, Chuck (gay) was demoted. Sexuality has nothing to do with job competence. |

By saying that you were a "rainbow store" you seporates the gay and lesbian community from the rest of us. Who cares how many gays wear the Orange. As long as they work hard and take care of our customers. Your store was never a rainbow store. It has always been just plain ORANGE. In my experiance HD has always been non-discriminitory. You will have individuals who act like asses no matter where you go. If your rainbow friends are no longer with the company , they simply no longer wanted to work for HD. So the gay victoms of an anti gay company is a load of %$&. Our bosses have bosses, not that you would ever have to go that high with such an issue. If you would rather work for a company that is "rainbow", go please we are having enouph real problems. |

Im not sure why you would say that you can be fired for calling an honest concern in to the allert line. This is just not true. You are not even required to give your name. |

Quit overreacting...I am a ASM in a store where I am straight, but my SM, HRM, and many many associates are gay/lesbian. And guess what? We are all proud to work in our store together. It's not a gay-straight thing, it's a "we work hard for Home Depot and ourselves" thing.
oh yeah. And we're not in a store on one of the coasts. We're in Colorado. |

Judged: 1 I've never heard any rude remarks made towards anyone. Our break room however is a incubator for all sorts of conversations. I do not spend anymore time in our break room that I have too....clocking in and out....that's it. I spend all my lunch time outside the store. I do not care for idle chit-chat and the break room is the perfect place for just that. |

Judged: 2 1 1 You live in TX, would you expect tolerance? Maybe in a big city… Go to college if you can. I am a professional now and they have a gay group at my job and I get to go to DC for a week every year to meet other gays in the company. Anyhow, go to college. That is always the best choice if you can afford it. I mean, people don't have to like gays, but the more education you get, the less it matters. I worked at HD in college (1996-1998) and I know people who are still there, and yes times have changed. I quit without giving you notice and can't get rehired - which I was stupid in college. I would like to work a few hours a week just to keep busy. Anyway, you need to get a copy of your ethics policy/code of conduct (http://ir.homedepot.com/governance/ethics.cfm ). Making comments about sexual orientation, which is a protected status, is also sexual harassment. I would take it to HR and the same day you take it to HR write a letter - read the policy and come up with how their behaviour is in violation of the code. Send the letter to the AUDIT COMMITTEE to the main HD in ATL, as well as whoever the president of the company is, but be sure to send it CERTIFIED and REGISTERED. Say that the Code of Ethics Policy is not being enforced and you are writing this letter and calling upon upper management (ATL) to enforce this policy. You are concerned that the employees you named who made anti-gay comments have not received appropriate training regarding the code and that the company may be in violation of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) of 2002, if no training was received. Tell them you think Code training needs to take place in your store...blah blah. By law, the Audit Committee has to investigate but only on the grounds of no code training - the code is required by LAW and the audit committee is required to investigate any complaints. At the end of the letter say you look forward to ATL firing the people and if HD cannot show leadership, you will be forced to file a complaint with the Securities and Exchange Commission because you believe the company is in violation of SOX because management is not enforcing their Code. Any complaint will take thousands of $ to investigate and the managers will definitely lose their jobs. You can email me at aplinhart at yahoo dot com and I can help you should you want to draft a letter. |
