I loved HD, and I worked there for 15 months. They fired me for calling another employee a name. This guy was untrained, rude, and stupid. I had ask every manager in the store to transfer me away from him. Yes I put my requests for transfer in online. To make matters worse he was selling dangerous combinations of product. All of this went unheaded, and I lost my job. They said I violated the respect policy, but no one ever showed me a copy of it. I estimate that in my time at HD I sold over a million dollars worth of inventory, which would have paid my paltry salary for about 20 years. I miss my good friends, and the customer interface.

Bill, You have know idea what my position is or how much money I make. Just by your statement you prove your ignorance. Respect is earned, not given and has nothing to do with money. I would imagine you do not get alot of respect.

The reason HD is such a terrible place to work, is because of people like this bill character.

I worked there, and they are not the most HR centered group of people. They don't care about people just the profit they can make. The current store manager has a napolean complex and can't manage people if they paid him. The funny part is they got rid of store level HR managers....that is the end of a good company....too bad poor direction and lack of leaders...oh well, lowes is always good.

Well I was fired "in accordance" to the points policy though some dates were falsified on the paperwork. And then guess what? The point system was done away with 1 week later. And I really loved working there. Moved from one city to another at the request of the district manager

Are you all that stupid?? You got fired because you did something stupid. All you have to do is go to work ON TIME. Do your job and not call people names (Which does violate the respect policy. The Respect Policy was in your New Hire paper work but I guess they should have read it to you). If you do that, you will have a long and prosperous career. How is it Home Depot's fault when stupid people do stupid things and end up getting fire. If you really think that you got fire for no reason get a lawyer. All the stupid people who got fired can go work for Lowe's. Once you start at Lowe's you will really learn how good it is to have worked for The Home Depot.

Homer,
Your post seems to violate the implied respect policy here. You called the folks who posted "stupid" after criticizing at least one of them for calling an associate a name. Since we don't even know what name he/she used, shouldn't you have more information before blasting away?
A little civil discourse would help you make your point and would make you seem less boorish.

This just confirms my statement on management. You are certainly rude, unprofessional, and disrespectful to the "backbone" of THD. If it were not for the associates you would not have a job. It's the corporate mentality that is the doom of THD. You are not worth the salary that corporate pays you.

You are correct that his/her statement does indeed violate. You must understand there are two sets of rules ......one for management because they are never wrong and one for employees who are only wrong when the management says they are wrong. Beware of Homer!

If an employee is or assumes they have been disrespected they should pick up the phone and call corporate. Remember, that corporate is looking to cut personnel and the higher up you are I assume you make more money........and that's the bottom line with corporate.

I am a salaried member of management at THD and I am reading these posts and others for the first time.
I personally find it difficult to fire an associate, good or bad. There are multiple checks and balances to the entire process. There are easy ways to be terminated though. Violate a direct policy in THD's code of conduct (which is given to all new hires, available on our internal computer system, and print copies in the store, and in the apron I wear every day)and you will find yourself on a final written notice or termed.
The real crime is the extra weight carried by our good employees. Our poor associates give us a bad name and avoid termination due to the actual difficulty to terminate an employee.

Daily Horoscope for June 3

Gemini

Do a little lateral thinking today and it will work wonders. Don't feel hidebound because you're supposed to do things in a certain way, because this is a great opportunity to try a different approach for a change. Even so, you may have to play down your unorthodox technique when talking to anyone who sticks rigidly to convention.
