Full story: www.homedepotsucks.org

Anti-Home Depot websites continue to grow in popularity. These has been a significant increase in web traffic at Homedepotsucks.org in the past few months. Many point to the recent layoff of 7,000 Home Depot, Orange Blooded Asoociates as the reason for the growth of these type of websites.

HD just loves to screw you on purchases. They have low prices because the product sucks and once you get it there is no looking back. Their idea of customer service is if they never call you back there must not be a problem.

My experience is that Home Depot has a "broken in the box" rate of about %100. In other words, every cabinet and light fixture etc that I have bought there in the last year (remodeling a rental unit) has been broken when I got it to the place and opened it, necesitating it's return. sometimes, it took opening three units in the store to find one that wasn't damaged.
Want more? The Delridge Washington store is the worst managed home depot ever. Since they have opened it about 5 years ago,(it's near my house), I have shopped there for small things, and on every trip there except for three they ahve been out of stock of at least one item I wanted. Out of stock on really common stuff. That purchasing manager needs to be beaten and then fired.
Oh yeah, and the cashiers won't write down customer complaints about this stuff... they claim they aren't "trained" to handle customer complaints.
Employees routinely lie to people about where things are in the store if they don't know.
When you say to an employee (or even the store manager) anything negative they say "it wasn't me" as oppsed to "i'll see to it that it gets fixed.(again no customer service ethic there at all).
The plumbing section is never organized with crap all mixed in the wrong place.
I have to routinely teach home depot "experts" what something is for when I finally find it after asking them for it and them not knowing anything about it.
Want more? Theres more...
You know the city grants a "use permit" based on drawings submitted to them, and those drawings include a required amount of parking. Why does home depot block that parking off with flowers and crap... Isn't that illegal?
Home depot won't take your complaint seriously unless you leave your name on thier 800 number.
everyone should call 800 553 3199 option 5 (The home depot voice of the customer number) and complain about EVERYTHING that happens thats bad in thier stores. They really need to hear about how terrible a job they are doing.

Another "Orange Blooded" Brainwashed fool!!!! Only a true slave of the homo depot would be insulted by someone voicing their negative opinion about the company. Ur prob a DH with hopes of getting ASM (assistant store manager, for the lucky ppl who DON'T work at Homo Depot). You've prob been with the company for years and they keep telling you how they have "Big Plans" for you to keep u licking their balls. The worst part is, ur buying it!!!!!
P.S. you can post whatever you want in reply to me. I'm not returning to this site so i'll never see it. And when you wake up everyday to ur $12/per hour slave position, think of me while you try harder and harder to convince urself that "the company loves me". Enjoy!!!!

Hi everyone. My name is....... and i work at the Smithtown Home Depot store. I've worked at this store for a while and I agree with the "brain-washing" theory. They feed you all of this BS about how they have plans for you and nothing ever happens. They treat some of the hardest working ppl in the store like absolute dog @#$%. I'd like to point out a this store's leadership and rate them on a 1.0 - 10.0 basis
Now let's meet Dave, the Store Manager. He is very knowledgable and very helpful when interacting with customers. Although he seems like a "Business Man", i can assure you that there is more than meets the eye. Here's a man that will go out of his way to let employees know that you are NOT liked on an employee and personal level. He has his favorites and gives them ANYTHING they want. If you're not on his favorite list, well.......sorry. He seems to have forgotten the company motto; "Take care of our associates........etc" I personally do not care for him nor the way I've seen him him treat some of the hardest working associates. When you're trash to him, you WILL know it. Dave gets a score of 3.1 (1-10)
Moving on to Frank the Assistant Store Manager. Although he may have his days, or weeks at that, he cares about the associates and our well being. Not a big Customer enthusiast, but a good man. So, regardless of his emotional episodes, Frank gets a score of 7.5 (1-10)
Fred. Fred the ASM (assistant manager) has similar characteristics similar to Dave the manager. If he doesn't like you, he'll let you know, and like Dave, once ur disliked, there's never any coming back from there. Fred likes to oversleep and open the store anywhere between 15min - 2hours late. Some have seen his Lunch breaks last 2-3 hours as he snoozes away in his truck, completely disregarding time, but he'll be the first one to attack you for being 5 min late. Fred is knowledgable, customer friendly and more concerned about how much the store can save than anything else. Fred gets a score of 4.2 (1-10)
And there's Lary (ASM). Lary treats ppl 100% equal all around. Be it a customer or an associate, you will leave with a smile (only if lary was the last person you saw on ur way out the doors) Aside from a few minor flaws, Lary gets a 8.9 (1-10)
Some department heads are nice people, others serve no purpose other than to ruin your day for no aparent reason. Be it a front end supervisor that everyone hates. She'll always find SOMETHING wrong with what you're doing. Due to her 17 years with the company and no promotion it's made her quite a bitter person with an attitude as big as her.......mouth. Or a Hardware supervisor that does AB...SO...LUT...ELY NOTHING but walk around with a coffee in his hands while socializing and spends a good 80% of his time outside smoking, or maybe the pro desk supervisor who has been nicknamed "Dave's Mistress" (and yes, he's a man), who is on a power trip so big, there's hardley enough room to move around the store and if for one minute, he could pull his head out of the store manager's.....ear, he might actually realize that **everyone** is laughing at how he follows Dave (store manager) around like a lost puppy, begging for love. Or even the former Gardening DH (promoted recently)who is as fake as a $5 Gucci bag and as two faced as a queen of diamonds.
Now, This whole rant should not suggest that i hate everyone in the store, There are some very pleasant people that work there. As a female, i was warned when i started that some of the men in the store are nothing short of pigs. I've never seen so many men (some of them married) try so hard to get laid. It's like i was placed in a building with sexual predators that constantly insist on telling me things that i really don't need to hear. How many times can I tell the self proclaimed "Ladies Man" from the pro desk that he must be confusing me with all the other girls in the store that he's slept with that I'm just not like them. Sorry buddy.

Oh yeah! That's why they call it "The Ho Depot"...it's the same way at my store...every store. I think that's the "unique corporate culture" that Frank Blake talks about in his In-Focus messages...

I started at Home Depot in April of 2007 as a full time temp cashier, and was told that if they liked my work, they would find a sales position for me after 3 months. They came to me one month later and offered me a sales position in Kitchen and Bath. I took it, and was there after my 90 days was up. In the first week, I sold 3 countertops worth about 1500.00. In November of 2007, I was promoted to Dept Head of Millork. The Home depot has always treated me fairly, and I have not been lied to or cheated. my hard work has been rewarded, and so has my dedication to Customer Service. I have been in retail for many years, and have NEVER been treated as good as I am here. It is my opinion that most of the people who whine, bitch and moan about Home Depot are either employee's who are pissed off that they are expected to actually WORK for their check, disgruntled ex-employee's who got fired for drinking,or doping,or stealing,or not working for their check, or contractor's who are pissy because, like so many I have dealt with, they tried to weasel themselves a nice fat discount so they can line their pockets after ripping off their client's, but were told "NO" by management

You hit the nail right on the head. I see so many people walking around bitching and complaining in my store. If they complain to me I tell them "No one is holding a gun to your head, forcing you to work for Home Depot".

Home Depot is infact guilty of abuse of their employees and when you go to them to get help, they treat you like you have two-heads. They all out lie to you and manipulate you they even cheat their own employees out of opportunities. They change employee profiles without the consent of the employees, schedule them for the specific times that they have requested off, they lie about employee actions and then write them up which leads to punishment of the employee and/or wrongful termination.
When employees excel and are a true benefit to the company and have all that it takes to remain an asset to the company, they make the work environment so hard for the employee that they finally give up and quit. We have personally witnessed a manager in our local store abusing an employee verbally and repeatedly cornering them until the employee has uncontrollable tremors. When we have reported the employee, the store manager sneered at us and told us we were making it up and absolutely nothing was done about it, except the employee that we were defending was threatened because someone came to her aid and she did not even know we were defending her. This abuse is every day and ongoing by the same people repeatedly. They have a team of liars that are literally running a prison camp. If you are a Home Depot employee, please keep a journal of every day of your work there!! Because as soon as you qualify for benefits, they will begin prosecuting you and lying about you and trying to make it so miserable for you to stay so that they do not have to pay you benefits, this ensures higher bonuses for the management. If they can keep part time employees from becoming full time, and if they can cause them to quit before they qualify for benefits, they save money by hiring new people to the positions. This is bad business and I recommend that you all shop else where. Support your local hardware and mom and pop stores, do not support these evil liars. It is at the expense of many dear lives of hard working people that we save a buck!!

I have a real hard time believing that, in this day and age, that kind of abuse still occurs. I have been in retail for 35 years, and have NEVER seen anything even close to that. I know I haven't seen anything like that at any Home Depots around my area. Maybe you should have Loss Prevention or HR check the security tapes to see this manager cornering this employee and gey him fired...idf it's true that is...my belief is that you aren't even a Home Depot employee...or are one that is bitter because you have to work for your check. In others words, I'm calling you and out and out liar.

Home Depot raises my blood pressure. My primary complaint is damaged merchandise. I just finished a painting project and bought about 50 new switch plate and outlet covers. About 10% are cracked or missing screws. Merchandise sold in bins is jumbled, filled with open packages and wrong packages and never gets sorted.
Often I'm shopping for something and every single box has been opened, usually with parts missing. I remember driving to 4 different HD's in San Jose looking for a bathroom exhaust fan and each store had dozens of open boxes, all missing parts. Yet you are charged full price as a 'new' item.

actually hddh...it all depends on the district you're in.. Its one big favor fest here with our DM encouraging store managers to promote their buddies and meanwhile well-deserving hard working associates are held back if they aren't on the buddy list. If we all are honest each store is different. My store has a great manager so the turn over rate is small while another store manager here practically whipes out the entire store anytime he's moved. I'm glad you work for a good district stay away from my district tho they like to chew up and spit out those that don't fit into the uppermanagent's clicks (by the way the Loss prevention is in the click too) and HR looks away and corporate doesn't care because thats what District HR and Regional HR is for..only problem is its hard to get around the district HR because corporate turns it all back to them. Alert line is a joke too because corporate is too busy to worry about every little issue.

I personally think The Home Depot is great. I use them for installations all the time. After using them at least 10 times for carpet installations in my rentals I would not us anyone else. They can get out there usually within 1 to 3 days amd I have never had a problem. When you consider how many installs they actually do I am betting the problems are smaller than a local contractor and you know how to find them if you have a problem. If you have a problem just go to the store manager and tell them what is wrong. Stop dealing with hourly associates. I also think that most complaints are made by crooked customers trying to get something for free. Or they are expecting something that can't be delivered. Just my opinion....Russ

I've been with The Home Depot since 1998. When I started you could pretty much get what you asked for, salery wise, and I did. The good thing about that...clearly...is that I'm getting a living wage. The bad thing...obviously...is that they've got me by the balls. I've read a lot of complaints on here about how horrible Home Depot is, and yeah, it has lots of room for improvement, but if you'd been around when Bobby Nardelli took over you'd know what HORRIBLE truly is. My success sharing checks are, NOW, never under $200.00...and I'm an IMS not an ASM. And thats with a recently opened Lowes just down the street. For retail, Home Depot certainly isn't the worst job on the block. You might try working for Toy's R Us, or WallMart or KMart or DollarGeneral to find out how much worse it can truly "suck". I'd take my management team now, warts and all.....AND trust me there's some big ol' warts in that all...to the horrors we got after Bobby took over. At least we've got a few who've actually promoted up through the company now. Yeah it could be better, BUT...it could be a helluva lot worse!
