Orangeokie, they essentially have to treat everyone in your box the same. If they count 4 lates as grounds for firing one person then they have to take that across the board for everyone otherwise it is not legal and you could sue. The problem is you have to prove that other people are being treated differently than yourself.
It depends on your particular states labor laws.

Dirtbags in orange aprons.. that is what these ugly, mindless, low-life "managers" are, who put people out of their livlihoods to protect their bonuses. They are a picture of all that is wrong with the world today. The only reason they sleep at night is because they have destroyed their consciences.

There is a life after HD. For those of you that dread the demoralizing treatment, hate the extreme hours, and fear the threatening pep talks, get away ASAP! Start preparing NOW to get away before the company screws up your total self esteem. You should network the floor and talk to the profitable customers looking for future job possibilities. USE the HD like they have used you now to find your next step. You wil be so glad you got out. I'm ashamed to even admit that I worked there so many years. I was earning $25.00 ph as a kitchen designer. I was very successful and trained many others over the years. UNTIL...you guessed it, management decided to cut older well paid associates! They made my life hell for weeks and then finally fired me for not meeting sales goals which were constantly raised until no one could get it. Then they took out the top two highest paid designers. BYE-BYE. Now their sales in my store are a fraction of what they were, and the "ecomony" gets blamed. Who cares. NOBODY. I so miss my clients and co-workers, but NOT the HD.
On this anniversary, I want to encourage all of you pros to find respectable employers out there who will appreciate your experience and talent. You will be glad you did. Good-luck!
Wow I hear Ya'... I was DM Kitchen, Bath and Appliances. I had an excellent team of 3 full time and 2 part time employees a kitchen designers. We consistantly hit an average of 100-125 thousand a week. We were a smaller store 77000 sq feet. Although as DM I was paid 21.50/hr I had two designers who made more but under 25.00 /hr. My ASM kept pushing harder and harder and told me that I need to get them to sell more !!! Hell they couldn't keep up with the appointments that they had and create new sales. They would have had to work 18 hours a day to reach their goals. I finally left as did the designers. It was explained to me that it was a training ground anyway by my ASM. I hate that company they suck.

I was fired for doing a line item void accidentally and was never trained that a line item void would get you fired for being a thief. Attention all cashier be aware! They have denied me unemployment benefits, I have been having a difficult time looking for employment not to mention they made up a bunch of lies about me in their report. has this happened to any other home depot cashier? Are the LPs really doing their job by making up lies!!!!!!!!!!

relax----its not just you. its whoever they feel they need to get rid of. if you are not in the "boys club", then you are an outsider. if you have a conscience, morals, and integrity, then you are an outsider with a target on your back. managment will make up whatever bullshit they have to to get rid of the older, higher paid aprons. so unless your sleepig with the store manager or drinking with the ASM's, watch out. Try to find another place to work----working at the Hell Hole will rob you of your self worth and a good nights sleep. store 3875 still sucks!

Unemployment claims have recently went up in my are also. At my former store alone, we actually had someone from the EEOC (or whoever) working there part-time, under cover. Needless to say the current manager is a total a**hat!
I've seen cases where an associate might have a stack of "finals" for minor infractions up to no-shows and still not get fired. Favoritism is huge with HD!
In my case, I lived over 40 minutes from the store and ALWAYS did my best to make it on time. Whenever I was going to be late, I called well ahead of time - no issues. There were also several instances where I would have to work over so I could help with customers. Any overtime that was built up, I would cut it asap, like we were told to. A couple of times I received counselings for the same thing, even after explaining what happened. So as a result, I told management that whenever it was my time to go home, I was leaving - that's it! On another instance, I had a former DH write me up 2x for spending extra time with 2 customers! Also threatened to have me put on a final for it, seriously. The Ops mgr. at the time tells me that he thought it was all bs as well and I replied "how come you didn't open your mouth then!"
The one time that I did try to call in last year, I was threatened with my job if I didn't come in for work! So when I actually was able to take 2.5 days of personal time off it pissed both the HR person and store manager off to the point that they fired me for it. I've apllied for unemployment and was denied. The reason.. I missed too many days! They'll lie or do anything to get around bot paying if they can.
I've talked with the associate hotline before and got the same response, that I had missed too much time. They lie about what goes in your files and then won't let you see them whenever you ask to. Bunch of BS!!

I got hired as a cashier for $9.05 an hour. People hired weeks after me came in at $9.50 an hour. Home Depot sucks. If your looking for a career company look elsewhere.
