You can go to the bid room when your purchase totals a minimum of $2500 USD (pre-tax).

Home depot does not give discounts for that many fans - you are better off dealing with specialty shops or a lighting retail store - i do installations and found that not only do they know what they are talking about but also have much better pirices than HD or loews - and you dont waste time like you do in the HD

I have never had bidroom take longer than 4 hours to respond in at least ten requests to them.

There are absolutely no contractor discounts at any Home Depot. If there are, then it is by a non-approved-by-corporate manager decision. This is a fact, and any manager who says they can provide you with a discount is in error of company policy. The ONLY way you receive discounted product is through the Home Depot bidroom, which every contractor services desk is aware of. Go there and ask. There are limits, however. If you are looking for discounts on wire, for example, you must meet a $10,000 minimum purchase. That is about the largest limit I know of. Other than wire, most others are about $5,000. If you are a small contractor and are just looking around, however, I would recommend going to Lowe's. They are much more responsive to contractor needs and can accommadate you on thr spot. The Home Depot bidroom process takes 1-3 days, depending how well the contractor services team follows up.

We are beta testing a new portal http://www.hire-a-contractor-now.com to help home owners get their work done by hiring a quality contractor at competitive prices.
Home owners can post a project for free and receive multiple quotes from different contractors and choose the best quote from them. There is no fee for posting a project either now or in future.
Utilizing the portal http://www.hire-a-contractor-now.com , Contractors can advertise their Profile, skill set, experience, sample jobs, references, licenses, permits to show their credibility and be known to the public.
Contractors can also bid on the projects posted by the home owners for different types of work including Home improvement, Home Remodeling, Landscaping, Plumbing, Carpentry, Tiles, Painting, Electrical, Siding, Office Construction, Office Remodeling etc.
All contractors have to do is just register with the portal and get more business.

I had the exact opposite happen. Went to Lowes and they didn't want to do anything on a $3000 order. Home depot sent to the bid room and took 15% off.

**This is not entirely true. There is no such list of certain people( "contractors") who would be eligible for a discount. The process is simple, the pro desk associate will draw up the bid and submit the bid to the bid room. The bid is reviewed and it is there determined the amount of discount that could be applied or maybe not even on at all.
Homer wrote:
Special discounts to contractors have all but been eliminated in our store. Any discount has to be approved by a manager. I have seen a DH and an associate at the pro desk fired last year for giving discounts to anyone/everyone who asked.
Now there is a list....a very short list from what a I understand....of who is eligible for discounts. In short.....if you are a contractor and not on this list.....you may as well forget about it.

Pro customers have been complaining about the lack or corporate support since they had their first prodesk. Pro desk associates are very knowledgeable and have been getting $hyt for their skills and ability (not to mention the millions they generate) FOREVER. They should have been organized years ago. The managers and execs are organized. You need to be also. Get informed or get walked all over.

My intorduction to the "BID ROOM" was NOT what the associates said it would be. I had a material bid of $4400. The clowns in the bid room came back with $69 discount. Slap me in the face! I was embarrassed for the poor employee who had to call me with the news, and I do believe she, too, was embarrassed. I went to the pro desk and discussed the results. They gave me the corporate answer, I am sure right out of the memo sent by coporate. I am a contractor and, for convenience, do a large amount of purchases from HD, THIS TOO WILL CHANGE!!!!
They say something good always comes from something bad, well, I found a local door store, who sells better doors for about the same and have free delivery. Thank you HOME DEPOT for taking such good care of me.....

Go to the Contractor Desk at Home Depot or Lowe's with a detailed material list over $2,500 and request a quote from the "Bid Room". You can make the process faster by looking up the sku# and quantity needed of each material yourself before giving the list to the Contractor Desk, not doing this step will prolong the quote.

A quantity of 500 will get you an OEM discount from the manufacturer. This discount will be much more than HD or any local supplier will be willing to give. If you can fu=ind more than one manufacturer, send them an RFQ and they will bid against each other. For such quantities, a sixty percent discount from MSRP is possible.

Hi all,
Could anyone comment if there is a special discount at Home Depot for contractors buying much more than usual customers.
Let us say I was interested in 500 ceiling fans, how much of discount would I have, or there wouldnt be any discount besides the normal quantity discount?
Thanks

Anyone can ask for a bid if their order is greater than $2500. Now, the items that have been discounted have an star next to them. If you are over $2500, you can grab a 10% off coupon from Loews and remove the items that weren't discounted and purchase them separately. Just make sure your original non-discounted order stays over $2500.

ANSWER: There is a program called voluum pricing where as you must purchase at least $3,500.00 per purchase. A customer agreement is then done with all the items you wish to purchase on it then it is submitted to the bid room in Atlanta and a contract specialist will then look at the bid and return the bid back to the store with pricing at that time the District and Store manager must approve the bid then it is given back to the associate who created the bid for markdowns as these vary de[pending on product the price can be from 1% to 13% off depending on products.

As a wholly owned national company with 3 divisions and offices in CA., N.Y., WI., and MI., our purchases are usually in small quantities, but we may purchase at 10 different stores in 6 different states. We also do not have time to wait for your bid room process. Our experience with your out of stock products, bad service, and uncompetitive pricing has lead to my decision to forbid our crews to purchase home depot the closing of our corporate charge account. We are in process of negotiating corporate purchasing agreements with Lowes and Mennards as well as local lumber yards and hardware suppliers. We were a reasonably large customer since 1986 and enjoyed our relationship until the last 5 or 6 years, then it reached this point; so good by and we don't expect to return as customers.

Funny, I was just there yesterday with $4,000 purchase and it took 30 minutes. Maybe depends on circumstances.
