Hi all,
Could anyone comment if there is a special discount at Home Depot for contractors buying much more than usual customers. Let us say I was interested in 500 ceiling fans, how much of discount would I have, or there wouldnt be any discount besides the normal quantity discount?
Thanks

Special discounts to contractors have all but been eliminated in our store. Any discount has to be approved by a manager. I have seen a DH and an associate at the pro desk fired last year for giving discounts to anyone/everyone who asked.
Now there is a list....a very short list from what a I understand....of who is eligible for discounts. In short.....if you are a contractor and not on this list.....you may as well forget about it.

If you are on that list, how high (percentage wise) can the discount be according to the lowest one offered to general public? 50%? 10%?

along w/ the quantity discount the pro desk (contractor services) the have a system called the pro bid room. The pro desk associate submits your order into this system sending it to the corp. office, within an 30 min they receive your discount back. For electrical, plumbing, flooring, and kitchens the average discount is 18%. Lumber, millwork, hardware, and paint is 10%. All they are doing is looking at the Home Depot cost and discounting it so they are not loosing money.

There is a dicount for high volume buys for contractors. This is done at the contractor desk at your Home Depot store. It is something called a volume bid that is submitted and sent back by corporate at reduced cost for high volume. YES! They do offer discounts...its called the Bidroom. Right now, as long as your quote is over $2500, the associates at the Contractor Services Desk will submit that quote into the Bidroom for you. You will usually see about a 10-15% savings depending on the product you will we buying (i.e..lumber,moulding, lights, flooring..etc.) Also, some quotes if it is just a certain product, may have a higher minimum dollar amount you need to spend. Visit your local Home Depot and go to the contractor services desk and they will tell you all you need to knoww! Hope this helps!:)

There are absolutely no contractor discounts at any Home Depot. If there are, then it is by a non-approved-by-corporate manager decision. This is a fact, and any manager who says they can provide you with a discount is in error of company policy. The ONLY way you receive discounted product is through the Home Depot bidroom, which every contractor services desk is aware of. Go there and ask. There are limits, however. If you are looking for discounts on wire, for example, you must meet a $10,000 minimum purchase. That is about the largest limit I know of. Other than wire, most others are about $5,000. If you are a small contractor and are just looking around, however, I would recommend going to Lowe's. They are much more responsive to contractor needs and can accommadate you on thr spot. The Home Depot bidroom process takes 1-3 days, depending how well the contractor services team follows up.

By the same token, HDs are budgeted at about 2% annually for markdowns, which is money the stores can basically use at their own discretion if they haven't thrown away enough product equaling that total. Depending on the store, they could have from $7,000-$20,000 weekly that they can discount to contractors. I guess it couldn't hurt to ask.

There is a process for just such bids. A contractor sales associate can submit a bid like the one you are speaking of to the bid room where they work on the margin on any item. You could see it come back with a discount anywhere from 5%-30%. Lighting and fans will receive a decent discount

Why mess with home depot when you can go to Lowes and they can submit a quote in no time and get way better deals. This is a new process for them where they actualy gove better deals than HD!

If you are looking to do large volume business with Home Depot, I suggest you ask your local Home Depot pro desk for the number to their District Pro Sales Manager. Every district has one of these sales managers. Theses people have multiple resources to save you money.

You can get up to 20% off Behr paint when purchasing paint thru the Pro desk/Contractor desk, depending on your yearly spend. Compare there off shelf prices to Sherman Williams, Dunn Edwards, Lowes and any other major paint retailer, add the 20% and you won't find a better deal. Please wait...
I used to purchase Sherwin Williams paint. I've found Behr to be superior in quality .....lately, however, I've found some problems with Behr but all in all it's superior
