So Im surfing the web looking for an outdoor fireplace. I find what I want on homedepot.ca. The price states $99.00. So I drive to my local place in Thunder Bay, Ontario Canada, the price there is $139.00 (a 40% difference). I ask whats going on, they say they have nothing to do with the pricing on the website, and that they have to charge more at the store because THEY have to pay shipping. I was then told, if you were to buy it from the site, shipping would be 40 dollars anyways.(which I find out later its a LIE, its only 27.00). No where on the ITEM page does it state WEB PRICING ONLY. You ONLY find out later that its web pricing only when you click ADD TO CART, then in tiny grey font it states it web purchase only. If I was just looking on the site for pricing (to do comparisions between stores), and not intending on purchasing via the web, I would NEVER ever see the tiny greyed text stating web purchase only. Home Depot is suckering people into their store by advertising prices on their website which they know is significantly lower then their instore pricing. FORTY PERCENT LOWER!.
Scammers!!!! |

As a HD employee .....many.....many of the items that are found at HD.com are not available inside the stores. One reason....there is simply not enough room to store all this merchandise...and YES the stores do have to pay shipping costs.
This is not a scam BTW. Items sold via the web are sent directly to the customer.....one time handling/shipping etc. Whereas items purchased thru the stores have to be packaged/wrapped/loaded/shippe d/unloaded and then placed on the sales floor. Everytime someone touches an item the cost goes up. |

Its still a scam. you go to any other site, and a price you see is a price you pay in store as well, unless its marked CLEARLY on the site WEB PURCHASE ONLY (ie go to futreshop.ca and check things out). HD is the first place Ive ever seen that sneaks around like that... total BS

Home Depot has a price match guarantee and I'm fairly certain it applies to getting HomeDepot.com prices on in-store purchases. It has to be the exact same item though. Arm yourself with that information the next time you go to purchase something in the store.

okay it's not a scam here it is simple and easy...just do the math asyou stated shipping cost is $27.00. So here goes $99.00
g.s.t and P.s.t@13% 12.87 shipping 27.00 ------ 138.87 I don't see this as a scam at all. Be well, Tricia

Somewhat related.....why aren't prices at HD in Canada on identical items at the very least the same as in the US?
OK, I understand some items may attract duties upon entry to Canada but the items I am comparing are made in either the US or Mexico and are therefore duty free under NAFTA. The one item I'm considering buying is 29% higher priced in Canada. If you take the current exchange rate into account, it's actually 32% higher. UNACCEPTABLE! |
|
But the service is so much better in Canada so that price is not important.

lulz actually I do a pretty darn good job of being the one to seek out customers. my manager is not a dick, which is surprising because of how messed up HD is overall. and you hit the nail on the head about the understaffed thing.. but then again, that goes for most stores in this company. |

Judged: 1 1 1 Think about this also we we give a refund to the customer even tho they bought it at lowes where do you think that money comes from? You got it my pay check. I work my tail off and can't even afford to pay my bills let alone shop at the store I sweat in so the next time you want to whine because you can't be bothered to read the 4 foot sign that says we will return anything no questions asked think about that! |
