Instead of going south of the port to expand why not just take everything north to 17th street and raze everything there for new facilites

I must say that forever is something politicians should know better to stay away from. the term is much to specific...

Anyway, the County saying the port must find other ways...is like the if the fed's said we couldn't build a road into a Hospital...makes no sense at all.

The County makes over 200 million in Profit..for those that do not pay attention, after they pay all of their bills, they put 200 million plus in the savings account. The port can afford to build, and it does result in local economy.

Let's face it, if you know anything about this port, you'd know the Mangrove in question is not utilized by anyone, the water temp. is almost 95 degrees year round becasue of the FPL outflow (some of you are not aware that salt water is used to cool the power plant...this water is then pumped back into the intracoastal...this river is aprox 95 degrees and contains little life, however larger fish and animals do head upstream when it is colder. At anytime there might be 300-500 Tarpon or 10-20 Manatees in this canal. The bottom is bare and there are not many things growing, other than trees)

While I agree we need to take care of our resources, we also need to make sure wew are on the short list when it comes to supplies. Port Everglades saves our butts during the Hurricanes...without direct access to a port, we would not have immediate access to food, gasoline, and supplies...WE need to make sacrifices and 12 acres of swamp sound like a decent trade for millions in cargo and a lifetime of opportunity.

The real story might be to find out who the County officials already promised the land to, and for how much....I bet they are waiting on a big check...that might be the only reason for them to have their heads jammed so far up the creek.

Since the Mangroves are a vital part of the enviroment of South Florida and we cannot afford loosing anymore Mangroves....why not tear down those condos that sit on the entrance to the Port...that would be a great spot for the larger port...or maybe tear down the mini mcmansions that sit on the other side of the port and make all that space where a super tanker can dock....mangroves we need, mini mcmansions, condos and larger ports....we do not need...God forbide we allow nature to keep us in check!
