Bailouts and replacement of G.M.s CEO, both Obama's idea of change, seems to really working well...

Obama's name will be forever linked with the final demise of General Motors.

If it were up to me, all politicians, Republicans and Democrats would take 75% pay cut until the budget was balanced. This includes the President. They would have to start paying for there plane rides and there medical. By the way, does anybody remember the check kiting? Can you write a check on an account and have someone else cover it, like “We the People!”

I have to agree with Oreo. All politicians should have to take massive pay cuts. Everyone else has had to why not them?

General motors have been shooting themselves in the feet for a long time. Why should we bail them out, when they contstantly hand out good jobs to other countries to save a buck. It worked out real well in the end.

They should have used other strategies to avoid this not depend on Obama and congress to help bail them out. They are business people who make millions...I thought that this would have meant that they should try having more innovative ideas than bailout.

This is a obama thing, drop a small stone in the water and watch the ripple effect, same thing here. obama wanted to buy the big companies and the result of that is GM, Chysler on now on the way down with more to follow. Sure am glad the dems voted this guy in! 52% is not a mandate of free will in the presidency. obama still will have to answer to the people when this whole house of cards he's building collapes. I love change. Pretty soon I will have to buy foriegn cars because Detroit will be shut down.

Datsun was never a separate company, it was a a side brand for the small cars from the DAT Motor Company, which later became Nissan. Nissan continued the Datsun name on a few models until the mid-80s when they stopped using the name, but it was never a company of its own.

I am not a hardcore Obama fan...but if anyone beleives it was solely his fault certainly hasn't stepped foot in Detroit or any other auto town in the past 3 decades.
The auto industry has been in deep deep decline for many years...and they are to blame for it. Not a man who has been in office for less than 6 months.
They put a band-aid on it for as long as they possibly could until it all fell apart. It was inevidable.

And I agree with Oreo...the massive pay cuts should start at the top! Not the everyday people like you and me who are just trying to live their lives in this effed up economy.

yeah youre right...it seems like there really are tons of companies out there, but actually there are 6 main ones (Toyota, Nissan, Honda, GM, Chrysler and Ford).
Each of those have their own side brands (Acura, Infinity, Saturn, Pontiac, Chevy, etc)

What rock have you been living under? GW Bush and his greedy big oil buddies put the final nail in GM's coffin. Obama was just given the mess to try and clean up. You want to blame someone then look no further than the previous occupant of the oval office.

Stop blaming the past administration for everything. GM is a business, they made some choices that weren't good. Now they will suffer the consequences of those choices. As far as I'm concerned the government should try to figure out there own problems first. Politicians taking a pay cut until the budget is balanced, that is funny. They would never get paid.

Great business model.
This is like McDonalds trying to sell more hamburgers by closing half of their stores.

Seems to me, if GM closes one third of their retail outlets, they will need one-third less inventory.

Sounds like a real corporate downsizing about to happen, lots of layoffs, etc.
