Liner,
I am a lifelong family auto dealership owner & I take offense at statements like the one you made about dealers being liars. Has one lied to you? Don't lie now. Car dealers DO NOT have a special franchise on lying. I get lied to regularly by folks in all sorts of businesses "for a sale". There are many good people working in the automobile business who have to get past this stigma every day they go to WORK and make a living. Get real. LOL
areas.
You make some good points and no, I don't mean to say ALL car dealers are liars. All I can say is from my experience, I've had one good, honest car buying experience. It was at a Subaru store. All the rest, at least one guy in the chain, whether it was sales, finance,(especially!), or service, lied to me at some point, so that's where I formed my opinion.
Yes, there are lots of good, honest people making a living at a car dealership and I do feel sorry for those who have and will lose their jobs through no fault of their own.

Because of the way it's being handled, without public disclosure of the list, a customer has no idea if he's dealing with a zombie dealer or not.
That is not good business.

Americans are becoming a bunch of lazy couch potatos.

Until we collectively decide to get off our butts and produce something worth buying we will continue to purchase foreign oil, cars, and electronics.

I recently returned a leased Trailblazer and have had nothing but problems with GMAC and the dealer. They didn't offer me any good deals on a new truck so I decided to buy a Toyota since their deals were fantastic. For some reason the GM dealer didn't process the paperwork for the returned truck and I was receiving threatening letters from GMAC that I owed $18K. After several months of phone calls and letters I finally felt it was all taken care of based on a letter from GMAC stating it was resolved. For other reasons I did a credit report and there on my report was the $18K I owed GMAC. I was furious. I called GMAC and they told me I had to call to dispute with the credit company. I will NEVER but a GM car again. NEVER!!!!

I returned a leased BMW at that same time and the transaction was smooth. Plus on the credit report it showed a $0 balance and account closed. If you want a dealer who won't lie or cheat try BMW and Mercedes. The cars sell themselves and I have never had a bad experience in either dealership.

I agree. All kids care about today is their IPOD,WII,XBOX,pc and cellphone.

Go to almost any neighborhood these days and count the #'s of kids riding bikes, throwing frisbees and playing ball in the street. you can count them on one hand-if that.

Liner,
Last reply was sent to you in error. Sorry. A fellow that goes by "Craps" sent a reply to me saying that he wished our business would close down because he was repeatedly lied to and taken advantage of by car dealers...so the reply was meant for him. Too much venom on here...

Great example. Not all bad but they do tend to make thier living by taking advantage of people who are vulnerable & at low points in thier lives...
