Wow! They won't get your money?

Might as well close up and go home right now if Mr Rockefeller here is going to buy only Chryslers.

Why should Americans pay again for cars our unborn children have already paid $4,000,000,000.00 for?

Does the UAW, Obama or GM expect such trust by Americans?

Screwing over the creditors will cost them unless the Obama administration writes "Special Rules" to create advantages over foreign automakers (who build the cars we want) and Ford (who took one for "Team America" by not accepting taxpayer bailout).

I only buy cars made in the USA from companies that pay a fair and living wage with benefits.

Deregulation and union busting have hurt the US workers ability to buy the very products that they produce.
Lower wages means workers don't have the same vested interest in what they are creating which is why things suck and are inferior than before the deregulation witch hunt.

Dont take up for Ford. They are still a crappy automaker who's philosophy is to design a car to fail and then charge outrageous procies for crappy dealer work and parts. My dad has been a Ford owner since I can remember and as a very good mechanic, I can say that they are the true junk heaps. GM cars are better but still rust buckets.

Toyota blows away all domestics but are overpriced. And I have worked there (20 miles away). They use cheap steel and make a killing off of just one car. The best cars I see right now are Hyundai and similar companies. They build cheap economical cars and sell cheap. They get great gas mileage compared to an inefficient domestic. We dont need toyota's anymore to get gas mileage and reliability. As a mechanic, the last vehicles that were home mechanic friendly came out in the early 90s, mostly Dodge. But I am amazed to see that Hyundai's are very mechanic friendly and simply built. The way it should be. Korea is moving up in many ways.

Winners: The union leadership and pensioners, Obama cronies who will be named to the board of directors and receive large salaries, greenies and global warming religionists.

Losers: The American taxpayer, people that owned stock in GM, people currently and who would have been employed at GM, American carbuyers who would have liked to buy real, large cars, and possibly all American drivers if the new Government Motors fails to sell tiny cars and Barry manipulates gas prices upward through taxation to force Americans to buy these cars they don't want.

Stock that will worth lots of money when they are done with the re structuring.

Sad but true although Chrysler cars finally achieved a level of quality long after they had gained a reputation for junk.

The only reason to "save" GM is the Obama principle which says that jobs are more important than businesses. Well, that's just so much BS. If this country becomes nothing more than a labor force for foreign industry, we can expect a rotten banking system to smell around the world.

GM got by selling largely unnecessary cars by marketing the hell out of them and then providing the credit (GMAC) to pay for the junk. When Oldsmobile fell off the truck there wasn't any reason for Pontiac or Buick to hang around either. And the engineers at Cadillac have been turning out stuff that looks like they'd been designed on mushrooms.

Only the Chevy division has pulled its weight financially since the 1950s and it more or less is all that's left of the GM car division. Buick which is supposed to be "almost as good as a Lexus" is headed for the dumptster.

A lean and mean GM is an oxymoron. But if they took a lesson or two from the Japanese and Koreans who wiped them out, it would be this: you don't decide for the market what its transportation will look like; you design for their needs and finances.

Germany expects VW to be the last man standing in US transportation. Japan's money is on Honda. If GM had any money or leverage left, their best move would be to buy South Korea and build truck factories in the North, but that chapter is closed now, too.

What's next? Polyester cars from India?

Any GM shareholder lacking the sense to dump their GM stock long ago mad a bad investment. The marketplace did it's work. They lost their money, and if I understand conservative principles, they deserved to.

They would lose out if GM ran out of money last Christmas and went belly up. With the bailout, maybe some auto workers, some parts makers, and the butchers & bakers & candlestick makers GM & Chrysler employees patronize still have their jobs.

Ford is not participating in any of this. If there's really a market for gas guzzling cars, you'll have your Ford dealer to buy from.

All the unmanly conservative whining makes no sense. Unless the point is to bash government.

It is a sad American story about the organized labor unions UAW who were used more than 90 years ago to protect the workers from potential ‘abuse’ by GM Corporation but now they killed the golden goose that fed them for years and years because of their greedy healthcare bonuses.
Clearly, UAW became the mafia style political tool to suck the GM to the ground and force the American people to pay their hefty benefits and pension by tax increase that were induced by corrupt politicians for UAW support of their re-election.
Now GM will be gone forever as a profitable company while the American people will continue to feed the parasite Democratic Party union peons, which are the political power of Obama with tens of billions of dollars to cover their healthcare and pension expenses.
Who can ever believe that the value of the healthcare and pension expenses that the government wants to pay the union parasites using our Federal tax and loans from China is much higher than the value of the GM Company including the company buildings and machines.
The organized labor union members of the mafia style UAW under Gettelfinger who were successful as relentless money suckers in self-destroying of US most famous automakers became the peons of the African Marxist Dictator Barack Obama.
The high school graduated union members were successful in getting $79/hour if they work or if they don’t under the mafia style rule of Gettelfinger and enjoying living like parasites that are paid by the hard-working taxpayers for making tiny cars that nobody will ever buy in America.
The UAW are nothing less than political power of the government that became the private force of the Dictator Obama who aims to take control of the failed automakers using them as political power for his re-election campaign in 2010 and 2012.
However, the new arrangement in which union political leaders are making cars is not going to succeed because the organized labor mafia of Gettelfinger is about living like parasites and sucking more and more benefits from the company paid by the American treasury.
The union members of UAW can build ‘green cars’ that move by the wind and by the sun energy but the cars will be used only as show cars in the museum of the worst cars in history that were designed by Pelosi and Obama that nobody will ever drive.

Go Go Bankruptcy! GM is a bunch of pompous fools who need a lesson in humility. I for one hope they never come out of bankruptcy, and Chrysler and Ford take their share of the market. Shut them down for good!

The unions didn't kill GM. They didn't help it any, but when GM quit building cars and trucks for people about 40 years ago, they were a moving target for anyone with a quality design. They went out of the transportation business and full-time into finance.

When the first oil shock came in 1973 GM went right on building low-mileage hogs that wouldn't last 75,000 miles. When Toyota and Volvo made it clear they were after the US truck market, GM recognized only Ford as a competitor and literally gave up the light truck market.

Firing GM's CEO may not have been Obama's finest hour but the Board wasn't doing its stockholders any good anyway. The General Motors that was a pillar of US economy in the '30s,'40s and '50s is a flopped bank today kept afloat by this administration's devotion to JOBS, not industry.

When the foot turns green and starts to smell it's time to cut it off. Consumer demand will tell us what to build, not the other way around.

You know as well as I do, that if the public doesn't want to pay increased prices for smaller, lower-powered vehicles made by companies owned by the government Barry's gang will do something to raise the price of gas so the public will be forced to. Barry himself said when gas was over $4 a gallon that he didn't have a problem with the price, just that it went up so fast. The Barry Gang figures that with their control of the media, they can get away with that without most of the public getting too upset. We'll see if that's true in 2010 and 2012.

Never happen. Stocks go up when people think companies will make a profit. Government Motors will never make a profit selling Chevy Volts for 60k while coddling the union workers.

That reminds me of something I've always wondered. According to the law of evolution, things that contribute to the survival of a species should become more common, while those that don't should become more rare. One would think there'd be fewer and fewer gay people over time, if sexual preference is genetically determined, because obviously they're less likely to reproduce. But that doesn't seem to be the case. Interesting, hey?

Spoken like a true zealot. While GM was busy making this the most powerful industrial nation on earth and employing over 600,000 people doing it, where were you and your backseat judge and jury? Driving a Ford? Kissing your Datsun? Wishing Hitler was alive to build more Volkswagens?

Sit back in your cave and enjoy your humility. Don't forget to pick up your welfare check or your Social Security.

I merely suggest that supporting a parasitic organism (biological or governmental) only encourages it to suck more life from you.

The sad fact is that GM will produce "government-idea" cars which will make the Yugo second worst car company ever created.
