UAW says "We made an agreement, and we made major concessions".

The auto industry deserves to go bankrupt so the UAW can get a dose of reality. I'm sick of hearing about all the wages & benefits they get and they don't even need a high school education.

The Big 3 business formula doesn't work. The bosses gave the UAW good deals to avoid major strikes. The UAW invested too much in Domacratic Party donations as insurance.

How many of us still buy cars from the big 3? What to do you drive?

If we have to give them $$ it should be donated to the pension funds of the laid off auto workers because they are unlikely to find work.

"American International Group plans to pay out $503 million in deferred compensation to some of its top employees, saying it must tap the funds to keep valuable workers from exiting the troubled insurance giant.

News of the payments to top AIG talent comes as the federal government has just put more money into saving the company from bankruptcy, beefing up the total public commitment to $152 billion. Meanwhile, members of Congress are questioning the company's expenditures -- including lavish business trips to resorts -- during a time when taxpayers are on the hook for the bailout. "

Meanwhile, snivelling little jackasses like you and the entire republican party whine when someone who actually works for a living wants to get paid for it.Go screw yourself.

GM continues to pay out billions in preferred dividends, guaranteeing a 12 percent return to it's wealthiest shareholders, but everyone wants to blame it on working class people making a decent living. America has spoken and most don't really care what these Republican senators have to say. They had unchecked power for six years and bungled everything they touched.

Screw the Big 3. In a capitalistic society, businesses fail all of the time. The gloom and doom that they and the UAW regarding possible 10% unemployment is a joke too. Unemployment reached 9.7% in 1982 and somehow the country survived.

Want to see what this country would be like for the working class if Unions are tossed into the dustbin of history? In a two tiered society servants are to doff their hats to their betters.Any guess as to the number of politicians who ever worked with their hands?Tending an assembly line, driving a truck, cleaning up after others draws an unforgiving blood equity.

I guess they don't own enough stock in any of the motor companies to have an interest in saving it. I wonder if any of them would have the cajones to tell each employee who would lose their job that its a dying industry, and their day of "reckoning" was coming. I highly doubt it.

Whatever they gave up in concessions, it was too little too late. The UAW gave up what they did, because they had to, and they waited until the industry was on life support to do it. Nobody owes you lifetime healthcare, a pension, and pay when you are not working. I don't have any of that and I'm a lot more educated than they are. I don't have a union, I save my money and earn my own retirement just like it's supposed to be. After expecting handouts for decades, you've basically passed the point of no return and you're expecting me to bail out you communists. Forget it, you don't deserve s**t. Tell you what, I'll give you 20 dollars to mow my lawn. You missed a spot.

I wish they would put it on the ballot. We are ultimately going to pay for these bailouts. Let us decide who gets it and who does not. I would not want to see these 3 giants fail! We Own a Chevy a Ford. Listen, give Ford to Exxon Mobile, Give GM to BP and give Chrysler to Shell Oil. They have made so much money off American citizens this past year it is not even funny!! Have them bail them out. You know they can afford it. These companies go hand in hand! There...fixed!

What a bunch of idiots. We gave the banks billions. Do people really hate workers that actually earn a decent living so much.

Since more is at stake than union jobs, people better get their heads out of their behinds and support the auto companies.

The erosion of the middle class continues. Let's keep supporting the leaches and punish people who actually make something. Whatever.

All that would do is simply give the UAW another set of (much deeper) pockets to pick. GM needs to file and reorganize. Give them money now and they'll just be back for more later.

This is just another attempt to break unions and undermine labor in this country.

If GM goes under, just who do you think will pay for all those pensions and health care benefits that will be lost.

Like it or not, we are all in this together.

Ten percent of the jobs in this country are auto realted, but I guess that doesn't count for much in the minds of some people.

'Automakers say bankruptcy protection is not an option because people would be reluctant to make long-term car and truck purchases from companies that might not last the life of their vehicles. But lawmakers opposed to the bailout say Chapter 11 might be a better option than government loans and they cite the experience of airlines that have gone through the process of reorganization.'

These companies obviously aren't operating productively. A bailout won't solve the problem of mismanagement only reorganiztion will solve the issues facing these auto companies. All a bailout will do is throw good money after bad. It will be like the continual AIG bailout. The goverment continues to give AIG money and AIG takes it's bigwigs on expensive trips and fails to work on it's problems.

Sound like you are a little jealous. You are under the impression that people are not educated who work in the factory. Guess again. My husband who is a skilled tradesman holds a degree. My husband has worked with an attorney, a college educator, nurses, and other degreed union brothers and sisters. Is not the premise for having a job is to be able to raise your family and be a productive citizen? My father is a retired tradesman(tool &die) who got his job after serving in the Air Force doing Vietnam. With my father having this job he put two girls through a private education and college without any gov't help.(we did not qualify for financial aid) With manufacturing jobs many Americans have and are doing this. If the auto industry falls so does the country's economy. If you are a small business owner and you have a service or goods to sell, who are you going to sell it to?

Medical professionals, teachers, retailers, truckers, social agencies(children services, policemen(women), firefighters...)and the list goes on and on. Remember that these autoworkers provide much of our tax base. That means they pay more taxes then you. So where is the burden going to fall? More then likely your income will be affected by the fall of the auto industry. Be careful on what you wish for.

I am not in this with you, union communist, and I am not fooled by your false dichotomy. These pensions are going to be lost anyway, too many companies are going bankrupt and straining the system even before this. Get another job and pay for your own retirement like the rest of us. America is hopping mad at you, even the Dems don't like you anymore. Support for the bailout is like 20 percent. The Democratic Party is dragging its feet as much as it can because it doeasn't like you either, it just puts up with you because it had to. And economic reality is going to steamroll you anyway, taxpayer dollars are not saving your jobs now and it won't in the future. It's just good money after bad and these companies are going under one way or another.

I find it so funny that certain people have learned a new word "communist' and want to use it every chance they can. Even though it is being used incorrectly.

Mega dittoes Fed up...With GM stocks so low now, the Federal Government should buy GM outright. Yes, I said it temporarily nationalize it and retool it and then sell it for a big profit.

Look at the auto industry as it exists now and see the future of the U.S. economy.

You can't keep paying people that add no productivity and expect to survive. That is what we are doing with entitlements.

The U.S. auto industry has been mismanaged for decades and any bailout is simply delaying the inevitable.
