It's a failure that was decades in the making.

Still the fact that they are keeping GMC, probably the most superfluous brand in America today (even worse than what's become of Mercury) says they are still obsessed with trucks and SUVs, despite the fact that this obsession is the largest reason they are in this position today, it doesn't sound like they have learned enough.

So Government Motors is chapter 11 and will they do the same as Chrysler and not pay the tax payers back ? YES ! so why bail them out. Should have let this happen last year before all the money was poured down that rat hole so the board could have multi million dollar bonus's...what a joke and screw the worker right out of their contract's as always ...so now the writen word in USA means nothing.....

Basil out banks that have foreign interests= 2000 job losses. GM fiules chapter 11= 40,000 jobs gone. Send ALL illegals home so our laid-off citizens will have jobs. And Arnold, cut off aid for illegals. The budget will balance.

The UAW was the direct reason the american automotive industry has failed. Now that this union was forced to take concessions to continue, this may once again become a viable company again.

The president has just stated;
"We are taking on this task as a reluctant shareholder. We could have continued to keep issuing loans, but GM has for the last four years been buried under an unsustainable amount of debt, and to continue this path would have buried this company irrepoorably. The government will not be directly involved in any way with the decisions and operating proceedures the GM board of directors decide as to new products, and this will be a quick government intervention."

Some think that the government is already intervening by making mandatory gas milage requirements, but this will help this nation as far as dependency on foriegn oil, and all other foriegn manufacturers would have to abide by this U.S. standard also, making a potentially more level playing field for GM and Chrysler.

I just hope that we've seen the end to this. I'm at the end of my rope as far as our tax dollars being spent are concerened. It's a gamble, that I hope for all of us will work.

I wouldn't count on it. The UAW's idea of concessions is eliminating having a paid vacation on the day after Easter and payments to people that don't actually work.

I blame the unions for this. They are greedy and only care about their own pockets. That goes for all unions. They have ruined this country! UAW, NEA, CTA just to name a few! Now that I own GM as a taxpayer, when can I expect my stock certificates and divident checks?

I am Sooo glad that GM had too do this. They have treated the American consumer with a planned obsoletis vehicle ever made.
These guys have been making junk since the late 60's.All GM products are junk. Screw the unions, They are the one who drove manufacturing from American shores.
Have fun.

GLad too know you are RICH and no it was not just the unions paying execs 100's of millions and millions in bonus's is more of a problem THEY DO NOTHING. BUT if a company signs a contract they sould have to follow through on it BUT now they don't . Same as if the bank closed out your savings account and just took the money how would you feel then ? Everyone in this country now wants the other guy to make less while they make even more SORRY it does not work that way...look at the past 8 years ? 96% of the workers in the USA are workers not OWNERS so stand up for the workers OR loss.

I agree with you - unions were a neccessity back in the 40's, 50's, maybe even the 60's, but for the last 40 plus years, these unions have done nothing except keep dead wood around, the employees walk around with a sense of "you can't fire me - I'm in the union" mentality, and expect consistent raises, even if their skills don't warrant the money.
What about those bull*hit "longevity" checks they recieve? You deserve more money for hanging around a little longer, even if your contributions wquated to ZIP?

Fact is, if these union employees had to go into the blue collar, non - union sector, they wouldn't last a week. They know nothing about competition, working harder to maintain and / or go further in their positions.

One thing I thank Reagan for is the beginning of union busting. That's been a long time in the making.

I am just curious what GM did with all the Bailout money. Obama can't fix what has been 30 years in the making. I find it interesting that part of the agreement prohibits GM from importing GM cars from overseas. Not sure how that is helping the company?

Pay employees and suppliers. Remember union workers were getting paychecks even during plant shut downs.

The direct fault of "Planned Obsolesence". Cars used to be able to bump another at 10 mph, with no damage. Look too hard at a plastic bumper now, and it'll cost you $1000.00 to fix.

But the quality is not directly related to the workers - it's the design engineers and quality control that allow crap to be built.
