Look at it this way...Obama may have destroyed GM, but at least it makes way for another insurance company to take part in the DOW...

Kudos to Travelers, now in the company of Microsoft and Coca-Cola. It should be a point of pride for Hartford that two of the thirty Dow Industrials components (the other being United Technologies) have major operations here.

Love the picture.

Love seeing modern day "educated" people carrying all of that paper around.

Have these clowns ever heard of computers and usb sticks?

No wonder they can't make any money.

Ford and GM were in the same boat. Ford decided to not let Obama's team step in, for fear that they would push them into BK. GM decided to let the Gov't help. Forsd is now trading at over 6.00 a share, and GM is in BK, trading less than 1.00 a share. There's a reason why Prudential just announced that they no longer wish to deal with Obama's team. They watched what happened to GM. Ford came right out and said that if Obama's team helped them, they would be pushed into BK, and they didn't want that to happen. Ford was in worse shape than GM, because they didn't have a secondary like Chrysler... so you should probably do some research first...

I think this is great. Sandy and the Boys bought the old Travelers, did a major overhaul (sorry Ed Bud fans) and set it free. I just love the fact that the same company Sandy couldnt not wait to get rid of is actually profitable, while Citi is a sinking ship.(P&C Insurance was a 'drag' on earnings) This, IMHO, is one of the greatest sucess stories that Hartford has ever seen.

I believe the Courant meant "spun off". This is great news, by the way!

Why is this so great?

The Dow 30 is actually an insignificant index that isn't good for much of anything anymore outside of something for the nightly news to report.

In fact, I remember reading a study a few years back that showed stocks entering the Dow underperformed the market (the S&P 500). If I find the link I'll post it.

Nothing anybody says here will change your opinion, all you want to do is bash Obama. It must be such a sad life you have, being the bigot that you are.

So you're basing success on share price. How Republican of you.

I apologize for calling you a dolt.

You are an f...ing moron.

Actually... if you must know, I voted FOR Obama. Knowing what I know now, I wouldn't have. You need to take a look at what Obama has done for you. Maybe he's a good fit for you, but not someone else.

Apology accepted. And, actually, I'm a Dem. Thank You. But, I'm sure that once I look at my taxes next year, I will change my party. My tax dollars are being used to put 30 Billion into GM AFTER they go BK, not counting the BILLIONS they already got. I paid 43K in income taxes last year out of my paycheck. Care to guess how much I got back? 3,000. Single with no dependents. Now Obama wants to raise taxes even more. Is that fair? But I guess thats what happens when you have people running this country who know nothing about finance.

I guess that makes you a DINO.

Just another self centered idiot who only does what he/she thinks is best for your own bottom line.

You probably didn't have a problem with that 10 billion dollar a month money laundering operation known as the Iraq War, though, did you?

Yes, I did (and still do have a problem with the war) However, having a couple people that I'm close to fighting that war, I know that there are things going on over there right now that we are not (and will never be) told.
