Meaning that in just two days Obama has thrown 100,000 workers out on the street without a job.

Obama promised to create or save 4 million new jobs but at this rate he will lose 4 million instead.

not to worry, all those car salesmen will just become pastors of their own church and receive their government paychecks while continuing their sales pitches.

Preachers don't work for the government.

But the salesmen could become failed community organizers like Obama and get their money from the government that way.

And now the ripples begin. The irony - the same people (Fox News) who opposed the auto bailouts, now are expressing sympathy to those who have lost their dealerships and jobs. So now, these autoworkers and the surrounding business that will be forced to cut back or close, will have to turn to public assistance (and rightly they should) but my bet is they will be condemned for that too, as this drags out.

Should be a bit of buyers remorse from those who bought the lines from the used car salesman now, thanks Barry!

The area I live in just closed the Chrysler dealership. Most expect the GM dealership to close. The money that went to these companies didn't do anything for anyone except the UAW. Isn't this criminal?

It took 40 years of federal government regulations from environmental laws to OSHA to affirmative action to auto design requirements to bring the Big Three to their knees.
Now, obama has extended auto worker job losses to dealer job losses as well.
obama couldn't design a soap box derby car but yet he wants to order the auto industry how to run their business.
obama's proposed new fuel economy standards will kill what's left of GM and Chrysler by making SUV and pickup trucks illegal.

Car Salesmen are the dumbest people in the world.

They are going to be hurting looking for a new job.

Too bad nobody educated them on the rules of Supply and Demand.....

If car companies wanted to stay in business, they would lower their prices on the cars AND on the repairs.

This has NOTHING to do with Obama. Just greedy individuals who never understood that capitalism works, if you don't ask for handouts......

Remember, it was BUSH who gave out the Auto Industry bailout... even AFTER the senate said no. A "conservative" President.

The laws of Supply and Demand are being broken.

The problem with the "Free Market" ... is that it doesn't exist.

Get your head out of the sand, and get an education.... this has NOTHING to do with environmental protections.... and EVERYTHING to do with un-educated morons.

Want to make sales?

Lower the prices.

It's called equilibrium.

Think your going to lose out on profits?
Real businessmen do it anyway....

It's the moving of product that makes business successful. Not profit margins.

Poor stupid un-educated masses. You should have finished college before working at the car dealership.... this is economics 101.

It is easy to blame Obama or the UAW, but when it comes down to it, the big 3 kept giving in to the UAW making them what they are today. There was so much money being made in the 70's and 80's that the leadership in place kept giving in to the demands of the union. They have never been forced to be innovative, thus now we are where we are at. Most republicans wanted GM to file bankruptcy and why not? Capitalism is a great system, but not the most moral. The liberals are the ones that should be screaming...They wanted GM to be bailed out. Where is the outrage?

These jobs were going to be lost anyway. The fact is that most of these dealerships were not doing the best of business even BEFORE the latest stock market crash, and should have been closed years ago.

The only thing that the UAW did was ask for REASONABLE BENEFITS and a pension system. That is all that they asked for, and those two things are not really 'outrageous' to expect in this day and age.

Jobs is why Washington approved the bailout, which has been too little too late. I think the brands like Pontiac should be split off into separate employee-owned companies -- found a cool site; www.tinyurl.com/dgbjlz ; incredible satellite view of earth

These headlines and story are in my opinion deceptive.

A new car manufacturer cannot "cut" 800 new car dealerships nor can they shut down new car "franchises."

No US car manufacturer can shut down car dealerships.

US car dealerships are privately owned and cannot be shut down except by the owner or whoever issues the business license.

I called 3 new car dealerships and they all verify the same information and that is that the US auto manufacturers can ONLY stop selling cars to new car dealerships when their contract with the manufacturer expires, BUT THEY CANNOT SHUT THEM DOWN.

Some will close, that is inevitable, but the general idea put across that new car dealerships in the US will close their doors en-masse is in my opinion pure propaganda.

Since there will be no mass closing of new auto dealerships these numbers are grossly inflated, very grossly inflated.

The new car dealers also verified another piece of information that is important and that is since selling new cars is their lively hood, they will do what they can to stay in business even if they have to switch brand names of the cars they sell, even if they move to selling 2 or 3 different makes of new cars.

So you see, these headlines cannot be trusted because US auto manufacturers have no authority in any way to shut down car dealerships in the US.

The headline I think is geared to promote fears of mass job losses when in fact the most likely scenario is that these car dealerships will move to selling other makes of cars, more fuel efficient makes, more affordable makes, electric cars, hybrid cars, propane cars, natural gas cars, "green" cars, even cars made in other countries so there's no way to tell yet which direction the dealerships will go to stay in business, so there it is...

...info straight from the car dealerships themselves instead of Big News.

I should send a bill to these media companies for my investigative reporting.

I would also like to mention my own conclusion that it is most likely that these car dealeships will move to selling cars made in other countries or the same made here in the US and when that happens US car manufacturers are guaranteed to go bust so this bailout money I think is just a free cash bonus given to the US auto manufacturers before they close their doors because they are going bust either way you look at it.

I say we should keep the money in the Treasury and just let them go bust because that's what is going to happen anyway.

It's a cash give away before shutting down is all I think it is.

Environmental laws have destroyed American industrial output for the last 40 years. The auto makers are the last remaining heavy industrial manufacturers in the country and their costs have increased by 1000% due to environmental regulations, affirmative action costs, OSHA costs, workmen's Insurance costs, unemployment insurance costs, double contributions to Social Security, and extremely high government taxes. Sort of tough to cut the sales price of cars under that kind of conditions.
All of these expenses can be avoided by moving overseas to countries that don't have these government regulations and restrictions. America has lost millions of industrial jobs due to government regulations and the trend will increase under obama.
GM and Chrysler are only the current victims. Many more will follow.

The new car dealers aren't going to go without income until the US car manufacturers get their act together. They will start doing business with other auto manufacturers then when the US makers come back with a contract to offer for new dealers to sell their cars they are just gonna say sorry Charlie we're making money elsewhere.
