I haven't heard anything since then but I'm not holding my breath after reading about the layoffs. That also makes me question the security of GM employment. I was one of those recently laid of from A123 Systems so I'm getting a little squeemish about working in the auto industry. I don't know if it matters but- Toledo I don't believe has lay off's anymore. They are hiring us to begin production of the new 8 speed trans...or so my source tells me. They are actively preparing and renovating that area of the plant we would work in if called. It is a large area. So hopefully this works out well for a lot of us. Think positive ;)

Who was laid off and where? I haven't heard that news... I was following Sparky's post. I assumed he was working at he Brownstown plant.

Hello all, Like you, I've waited and waited for this so-called opportunity from GM. Gone through the exasperating process, from DDI to the face-to-face (I've actually had two of those!) to finally all of this waiting. I've followed these blog threads since the beginning, so I can relate completely to everyone's frustration. So, I finally decided to forget about GM, the way they've apparently forgotten us, and guess what happened? I GOT ANOTHER JOB! And not just any job, I was hired by FORD, starting at around $16/hr! So as far as I'm concerned, GM with all of its fickle tendencies can go get stuffed. My message to all of you is don't just sit around and wait for them, your better opportunity my be just around the corner. Good luck to you all, and LORD bless.

Don't be fooled, even though the current administration went along way in getting GM out of the ditch, GM will still keep the brakes on trying to make Obama a one-term president. The hiring will begin when GM sees that thier political clout will not prevent Obama from re-election.

I too have pursued other jobs but without much luck thus far.How did you apply to Ford? Is it a direct referral company as well? I don't see anywhere on a web site to apply for hourly/assembly. Email me if you prefer to not post it in the open.. emtchickee22@yahoo.com any info would be a blessing. We are have a hard time keeping our heads above water since my last job of 8 years closed its doors forever last summer.

Hey guys!
Just found this forum, and am both grateful to see so many people in the same boat as I am, and disappointed too.
I had my face-to-face in November. Did my drug test nearly a month ago, and no word.
Apparently thanks to the sales plummeting, they're either laying off again in a couple of weeks or doing a shutdown (from what I've heard) and many people inside are already thinking of looking for work elsewhere.
Needless to say, that's not good news for us hoping to be hired in.
I keep being told to stay positive and that things will pick up, and I should hear something any time, but...I'm losing a lot of hope. I know it costs money for them to go through the drug screening process, having to send it to a lab and all, and I've been told basically when you pass your drug screen, "you're golden".
Well, I'm 100% drug free, so I'm not worried about whether or not I passed. But waiting by the phone this long is starting to drive me crazy. I'm close to losing everything and was really banking on this working out since no other jobs have called back in the meantime. Pretty scared at this point that nothing is going to happen!

Hmm...interesting...I haven't even been called for the drug screen yet, so looks like I've got a much longer wait...after the approval from ddi came, I figured a couple more weeks and I'd be.onto the next stage....I'm really starting to wonder now...

I sincerely thought after the drug screen, I was set. Seriously. I mean, when they go for the hair, that costs GM some bank each time to administer that test, and GM doesn't usually front the bill on a drug test unless they're REALLY considering you for employment. So I thought it would be a matter of days, maybe a couple of weeks tops. Monday it will be exactly a month and not a word. And with the sales dropping like they did for the Volt last month, I'm truly starting to feel the anxiety that it's not going to be the "right time" to bring in new people, and that I'm going to have to watch the job postings DILIGENTLY to re-apply at some point and go through this whole process again. I just hope in the interim I've got a steady enough job to bridge the gap between. Of course, I'd much rather just "get the call", you know? It's frustrating, it really is. In a sad way though, I guess I'm glad I'm not alone in this. Seems everyone on this board is going through pretty much the same. I wish someone "on the inside" knew a thing or two and could maybe post some insights for us, just to give us an idea as to whether or not it's worth our time to keep waiting or to give up. Either way, I need to work...if it means floating elsewhere for the time being, so be it, but I do NOT want to miss that call....

I still look forward to getting the call but I am out of time to wait around stagnant...Gotta find something now and with any luck it will be comparable- or better :) Keep your heads up everyone! I look forward to meeting you all, as co-workers one day. KEEP posting! I have no new insight. What plant are the lay-off rumors coming out of? I know sales have recently slid but GM has a number of NEW products slated to go into production. As I understand GM's statement, all the new hires are for production of new products...

I'm out of time too. Unemployment dries up this week, and I'm done. I have an interview tomorrow for a position that I'm not confident in, but I'm HOPING I can do a decent enough job to get hired if ONLY to carry me through to the GM call. The lay-offs I heard about were apparently in the Brownstown plant (which is where I interviewed and tested for), so it wasn't exactly a booster for me to hear that. However, I DID hear about the new products that they're planning on rolling into production there, so basically, at this point, even if it means it's a few months from now, I hope they remember me, and have me (and of course the rest of you) at the top of their stacks when they start looking for people to hire. I REALLY do hope this. I'd love to meet all of you too as co-workers some day, because let's face it - all of us are generally waiting by the phone, we mostly have no other "good" options otherwise...we've sorta all shared this crappy ordeal for a while, so we've got THAT much in common. In the meantime, if I hear anything, I'll report back, but at this point...I know as much as the rest of you, really. We'll see...

Just a quick update.
Not sure what it means, but it doesn't sound all that promising. I found out that after my drug test, my name is part of "a pool" of names. The Brownstown plant isn't looking to hire anytime in the immediate future, apparently, but those in this "pool" might be called whenever production picks up or the market rises, or whatever. So I guess just more waiting. Sorry folks, not sure how "the pool" works, but I've gotta find SOMETHING in the meantime.
Best to all of you.
