After all, you all know that unions are the reason for every evil known to man, since they tend to interfere with that no-holds barred capitalism that so many profess to believe in. Here's one for you all... if the cost of healthcare in this country hadn't gotten so out of hand, our automakers and other major industries would have no trouble whatsoever outperforming many of their foreign counterparts in the world marketplace. I guess that's the union's fault, too. Unions are a bittersweet legacy of our country, the "can't live with, can't live without" cliche'. I really agree that healthcare is our next great issue. We, as a nation, can't afford to keep everyone alive at our current level of care. We have made great advances technology-wise but can we afford it??? Health care is ridiculously expensive and I can see a time when Doctors, Nurses, Hospitals and HMO's will be in this same bucket...

And the cost of healthcare has the potential of bringing everyone else to the brink of financial ruin for a minor injury or an extended illness. Heck, even with some insurance plans, some people are barely able to afford the medical care part of a pregnant woman carrying a child to term, much less the medical care costs after the child is born. And having kids is supposed to be a desirable thing, not a debilitating disease.

The UAW is a big reason the big three are in this financial crisis. The best bet is to allow the big three to enter bankruptcy to restructure their cost of wages and benefits. United Airlines went through this pain and it saved the company. Otherwise, we're going to throw billions of dollars down the toilet and have this problem again in two or three years. The United bankruptcy made the lawyers $400 Million and the Banks made then that in fees. The employees lost a third of thier pension and a large pay cut, and by the way the CEO had a clause that his pension would not be decreased, was fully funded and seperate from the Union. The bankruptcy laws are now tilted to big business that the workers do suffer. No bankruptcy or bailout, just make better cars

To keep cars prices down lets just not pay the pensions earned by the workers and invest in the stockmarket. I heard the stockmarket doing well and a good broker like Bernard Madoff will double my money fast. Unions are the root of all evil and the concept of making good money and benefits is just crazy talk and really un-American. I can't wait till day we can't afford to grow old due to promises not kept. Is it happening now and the people who really cause this mess are telling you how to fix it. YEAH, RIGHT

Get an education, work hard, and eventually you too can afford a new car. If you work at a dead-end job, then go home and watch TV, don't expect an increase in your standard of living. 90% of adults living in poverty in America are there by the choices they make. Immigrants taking the initiative to come to this country seldom stay in poverty for long. WOW! I didn't know I was an uneducated immigrant who has a crappy job. For the record I have a Masters degree, own my own home, make a good honest living and have a newer car (2007). I don't think the government owes anyone a car! I just think alot of cars/trucks/suvs shouldn't cost as much as they do.

I agree totally, even if the Uaw worked out less wages for assemblers , do really think the prices of domestic cars and trucks would actually come down?????? Not Hardly...What we have here is free trade biting us in the A S S...as of 2000 a certain local truck plant was making $15000 a minute...anybody wanna argue that, I received the $16000 profit sharing check to prove it.....and these wages statements are total compensation, insurance, pension and such....

The prices of SUVs are way too high also! Consumers should have not have to pay $400-$500 per month to own a vehicle! Granted I do not pay that for my vehicle, but most people around $400 per month. The auto industry has gotten too greedy! I bet it doesn't take $35,000 to make that Ford Explorer or Chevy Tahoe, etc. Like I said they need to have more affordable vehicles available to consumers! is it also unfair that a gallon of milk is $5 and a loaf of bread $2.50........it's all relative

It sure matters to the people working in those factories. The dirty little secret is that many of the big three cars are built with more than 50% of foreign parts. Honda, Toyota, and BMW build cars with more American labor than cars built by the big three.

They might as well shut down production. This bailout is equivalent to the profits on 11,500,000 autos that they don't even have to make any effort to sell.
