New York real estate: New Dorp, Staten Island -- Financial and ...

Full story: AMNY

Wander off Hylan Boulevard onto any of New Dorp's smaller streets, and the vibe is much more small-town hamlet than big-city living.

Nice article, but I have to point out that the "comic book store" mentioned -- i.e. Jim Hanley's Universe -- is a Staten Island institution. It's one of the great comic book stores in all of NYC, and has been on the Island for over 20 years. As a 27 year old who grew up in Staten Island and has many fond memories of JHU, I had to mention it.

Stopped by Created By You with my daughter this evening - I'd been there once before and painted a mug that I was pretty happy with and wanted to do another one - I thought it would be a nice way to spend an evening. Well, we walked in about 5:45, there was a children's party going on in the back; no one acknowledged us - not even a nod in our direction. So we looked around, wanting to find the mug, but there were none on the shelves. 45 minutes went by of us looking and waiting to be served, but no dice. Eventually, I walked to the very back of the store and asked the owner (I recognized her picture from this article) for assistance. Clearly this was a nuisance to her as I interupted her conversation with a worker. I asked about the mug; she said there were none. "can I order some?" I ask. "no" says she. Hmmm. I'm ok with the fact that the item was out of stock, but this woman could not have cared less that I was in her store looking to pay her to paint a stinking peice of pottery! I'm guessing that it's the parties that keep her in business, because it sure isn't her glowing personality! by the way, for those who may still be thinking about a relaxing evening painting: a mug plus the sitting fee for 2 hours would have set me back about $25 - not exactly cheap thrills. My daughter and I walked out so disappointed that our evening plans had been squashed. I had planned on making this a sort of "thing" for us, a hobby. Too bad it's the only one of it's kind on SI. But I'd never walk back in there. Shame on Ms. Collin for the worst customer service I've experienced in a very long time!

After reading this posting I do not feel it to be true. I greeted you when you came in I guess you did not hear me with the party going on. You asked me for a mug the the supplier stopped making.I did suggest another Also you can get coupons at our website. So it would only cost around $15.00. I did ask if you need anything else. The total time you were in the studio was more like 20 minuntes. Yes we aim to please all but if there is a problem with a party it must be taken care of right away. Sorry for your any inconvence you felt. Please visit our website created-by-you.com P.S. I remember who you are so I will offer you a free studio if you would like.
If not have a wonderful day.

Daily Horoscope for May 23

Leo

You're in a very idealistic mood today, making it almost impossible for you to view loved ones in their true colors. If they've got any faults you won't see them because you'll have blanked them out. This rosy vision of your nearest and dearest is fine if it doesn't last long but it will cause problems if it persists and you continue to brush any problems under the carpet.
