Interesting that the workers reject the advice of their own union leadership. Maybe these workers should be thankful to have a job when so many do not. Hopefully Ford will initiate massive lay-offs in Michigan as a result. Why people in Detroit feel America and the gov't owe them something is beyond me.
I've only owned Ford vehicles over the past 24 years. I've believed in the company. I'm an average working person that is a Ford shareholder. My plan is to sell all my shares on Nov 4th as a result of the pompous workers rejecting the union advice. If the workers want to turn the company into another bankrupt automaker like GM or Chrysler, they're not going to throw away my investment in their company.

You are completely correct that ALL Ford employees, from Mulally on down, should take the same cuts. But if you do not you may not have a job. I will not argue with you about the treachery and corruption at the top tier of Corporate America. The entire corporate system is a ripe looking fruit that is rotted on the inside. No doubt you have made concessions. But you still make a damn good buck. Go to any other place of employment. See how much they make, compared to what you make, that is, if they still have a job. Ford has to tighten up, shape up, and be as efficient as Toyota, or it is a goner. What the UAW really is saying is if we don't keep getting paid a king's ransome then send the work to slave wage nations, because we don't give a damn. This is sad for you, sad for America. I grew up in the coal region and watched the United Mine Workers slowly dismantle our domestic coal industry, with the loss of tens of thousands of jobs. Then I watched the USW dismantle the steel industry, with the loss of 100,000 jobs just in the Pittsburgh area.Later I saw the mighty Pennsylvania Railroad, once the largest railroad on earth, fold. It makes me sad to watch the UAW dismantle the last major manufacturing industry that we have.

I agree the bigwigs should not be getting bonuses. The dividends they get on their stock holdings should be sufficient and very reflective of their job performance. However - if the line workers want to keep their jobs, they had better wake up and realize that they have been overpaid for decades. When there is no requirement at all for an education to perform a job, how on earth should you be paid more (with benefits like you have) than people like those who educate our children and perform jobs that cannot be out-sourced to "third world nations"? You are paid well. You have already seen that many jobs can be replaced by robots. The quality of U.S. made automobiles is severely behind foreign brands, although some headway has been made in recent years. And yes - I have worked for all three of the "Big 3" U.S. automakers. And listening to some of the problems people have with NEW vehicles is a joke.

And, I meant to include, that reading ohiofordman's comments should be proof enough about educational/intellectual requirements to work there....

I believe the UAW worker has given up all they need to give up. I am a retired Ford worker., and back them l00%. These workers and hard and dedicated people., not like our Congress and Senators who have been given monetary income for the rest of their life, and can get raises simply be a stork of the pen., let alone their morals regarding our COUNTRY. If things dont change soon, America will be a second country, (or maybe a third). Enough is enough.

Daily Horoscope for December 19

Capricorn

Someone is being very pedantic and picky, and they'll soon drive you round the bend with frustration. They're splitting hairs about all sorts of petty problems, but unfortunately you won't be immune from this yourself. You might get caught up in needless details that don't really matter, or take everything that happens very personally. Try to be more objective.
