After more than four decades of employment in Putnam County, I also became a statistic when my job went by the wayside Tuesday. I wish the gang at Ethan Allen well..A great group of professionals who really care about their customers!!

It is hard to get it until it hits home. I have heard so many people say they will have to cut back and live off their savings..but many people have already cut back and do not have alot of savings.

These are harder times then we think.

Less workers, less spending, less hope.

It sure seems like we have not hit bottom yet. At some point we will and the hiring will begin again.

Now that the Stimulus Bill has passed, the President and the other politicians need to change the tone of their rhetoric. Start talking with some optimism. Give us some examples of good things going on.

Sorry to hear about the folks at Ethan Allen and hope they make it through these times okay.

If this rag of a paper would report the real news about the stimulus bill maybe people would realize how much crap is in it !!! Far to many pet project hidden in the bill at a huge cost. Instead get this money into the people's hand that can save jobs.

So Obama said there 1000 people lined up for 35 firefighter jobs....a sign that things are tough. There are always numbers like that, even for Danbury's exam. I'm surprised there weren't more people lined up. However, I can bet you there are more than 1000 people in Miami lining up for a welfare and unemployment check--Thanks Mr. Obama, you were right...change is here

I got axed 4 months ago - I have 9 recruiters, have applied to over 200 jobs on line and only got 2 interviews so far. After interviewing both companies decided not to hire anyone - neither job was filled. I have an interview tomorrow - it's for a part time job. At this point I'll take anything I can get. This really sux.

Don't let anyone fool it, we are in the beginning of a Depression right now !! And it is only going to get worse this year.

All this started 20 yrs ago with companies outsourcing jobs overseas. Now, the companies are just cutting the jobs more. They will never be replaced.

All indications show that this will not get better for years. And then if you are one of the lucky ones to find a job, it will be close to minimum wage.

Thanks to 8 yrs of Bush.

I have been laid off three times, the lastest this year. Capitalism at work. The only good news I can see is the greedy highly overcompensated executive bozos who got us into this mess will now have the feds monitoring their pay.

It will cost $300,000.00 for every job created. Do the math. Better to send everyone a $20,000 check and be done with it.

this all comes at a time when the democrats are pushing to eliminate e-verify for stimulis bill jobs. domestic unemployment keeps going up and up and the democrats want to give jobs to illegals any way they can wtf.time to get out the pitch forks and torches. the unemployment rate does not take into the millions who are underemployed or have had to take unpaid days off. thanks dodd lieberman et al.

I truely feel for those who have lost their jobs.

I think "tragic" is not the right word. Sad? Depressing? perhaps, but tragic is something that applies to death and illness.

This country has seen FAR worse times than this - and some plain talk by our current President as to the dire nature of our economy is appropriate, it's time for ALL of us to pull our heads out of the sand and start doing something. Help your neighbor, and quit your bellyaching.(This last comment does not apply to those who have recently been laid off)

Obama is a thrill a minute. He has been in office for a few weeks and has already made slaves of the working class.

Just today he also had his Assistant Sec of Defense approved. Tell me again about Obama and his "I won't hire lobbyists" pledge. He's already put a handful in the White House, with more in the wings.

People wake up. When the statements don't match the actions you've got to stand up. Washington lives in a bubble world. On the bail out smoke screen, our representatives in Congress were swamped with negative phone calls, letters, and their offices were packed with people who wanted to express their opinions. They refused to listen and went on their merry way.

The comedians had it right, they don't care as they don't pay taxes.

Gee, what ever happen to Obama's illegal immigrant aunt. She was deported, but stayed in Boston and is living in public housing. Wonder what her status is now?

When it comes to politicians they can tell you anything, but judge their actions, for that is their true course.

Daily Horoscope for June 4

Aries

Take care today Aries, because the emotional landscape in your neighborhood will be full of pitfalls during the coming fortnight, as it has been since the Solar Eclipse on May 20. The more convinced you are that you're right, the harder it will be to navigate your way around forthcoming events. If you feel resentful of someone, perhaps a neighbor or sibling, you need to get your feelings out in the open, rather than burying them deeper, where they'll fester and lead to more problems in the long run.
