I heard farooq is getting a humanitarian award for this. Him and Mugabe.

His biggest concern on 9/11 was that he had to ride in a limo back from the midwest, instead of flying on a private jet, and he didn't have a pillow.

Worked at Orleans Plant until Oct 09", nearly 17 years.... last couple of years worked mostly 32 hour wks , or even a week , to two a month off..
I think the writing is as clear on the wall, as the EA Brand on the furniture... When I started there , I always imagined a worker with a leather apron, and square glasses, but soon found out , it was a push, pull plant...in the last two years it went completely to Fast Moving paced Roller Lines, with no regard to quality , but just Quantity... Even at the slow times , production goals Never Dropped, only employees hours... At least 8 Plant managers in my 17 years.... I'm not at all shocked at the News , but still very saddened for my fellow employees.. As said, everyday, every week was an event of bad news.. It was so difficult to consider anything but our future, how long to we work 40 hrs, when do we go on 32 hrs go, do we work 4 wks this month or three? The environment for a worker was just Torture, and stress..how does that effect quality... As an employee my last word on overseas production was 35 %.... |

I too am an ex-employee from Nov 2008...I actually sent him an e-mail suggesting EVERYONE earning 100K or more should take an immediate 30% cut in pay, after all, if you are earning 1.6 million a year, a 30% cut still leaves you with more than unemployment, which is what we in the lay offs are eligible for....what a joke, an American tradition sent down the tubes by a non-American at heart |

I am amongh the "laid off" from Nov. 2008.
I know that Mr. Kathwori had a suggestion that EVERYONE earning more tha $100K per year should take an immediate 30% cut in pay, if he wanted to show initiative to act more responsibly than the rest of the CEO pact in this country - after all, what a shame that an American tradition ends up cutting the lumber in the US, transport it to China, manufacture it (low quality in most cases) then transport it back to the US at inflated prices....but lets face it, earning $1.6 million a year, he is not about to take a 30% cut - the answer, just keep laying off the "little" people who dedicate their lives and break their backs to pay his and all the corporate and district managers an inflated salary to drive around and pretend to be doing "their best" - while the folks earning $30K a year lose their homes. |

It is happening everywhere, i was just let go along with a 60 year old designer who worked there for 30 years. I am not angry, but what gets me is they are promoting CHIC SEXY COOL etc. but the people they chose to keep have no design sense, they are 45-65 years old...how are they going to carry the new image?
yes, people are unhappy, we all were going to work everyday to sit around and pick our noses. now I will get unemplyment and make the same as I was on my weekly salary...hmmmmm not to bad:):):) |

Nearly 1000 ppl laid off nationwide since June '08. Definitely a sign of the times, tough times -- but what's amazing is that the terrible, threatening, inept management at store and district levels is still in place. As mentioned in previous comments -- the workers, most hard-working, are the ones laid off and these managers -- who make their lives miserable, make them bleed for every dollar they pay them, are still employed. How do they get away with it?

I've been trying to figure out how to get into management for the past 15 years! Guess I must be too nice a person or something, because every time I've tried to move up, I get shot down. Believe me, there's nothing like being told "You're too valuable to us where you are" to make you feel real good about your management capabilities.

After being Laid off since March 9th, right in the middle of live projects I was perplexed to know how they dont care what happend to the customers orders. Companies want the Empoyee to give 1-2 weeks notice, WHY cant they???Double Standards?
This allows project rollover into the person taking your position if there even is one. While collecting unemployment I would work as a consultant to the store and get paid for projects that need the attention. And if the project sell...BINGO $$. After reading everones email about prices and being in this Industry for 15 years now..Ethan Allen isnt for everyone...so dont complain about if you cant afford it...its not their fault! Two things we mist remember and lets all thank Former Pres. Bill Clinton for allowing our american companies to move out of the USA and open their factories else where.TOW THUMBS DOWN! Now here I am layed off...My cobra is about to kick in..And thanks to Mr. Obama's Stimulus Unemployment package, EA will be paying up to 65% of my Cobra..OUCH! This is going to hurt every big business company that laid off employees since sept 2008. I give up...Im moving to.... The bottom line is this..its not EA fault... this entire crisi goes back to Fanny & Freddy..if there are no loans for home improvement, of refinaning or even financing from GE credit card then where will the money come from for consumers to make these purchases? |
|
Huh?? |
|
Can you tell me what the criteria was for the employees who were laid off? I still can't figure it out. I came in early stayed late and was gun ho EA. |
