I am happy to have Java on my PC for free, but I'm upset that the last Java update's default action was to install Carbonite on my PC. I prefer to choose my own backup solution. I have lost trust that Sun will install only Java during Java updates.

Go to the control panel. Bring up "Remove Programs". Remove the damn program. And do not download any Sun Java software ever again. It just is not worth the damn trouble go back and restart the whole PC mess.

The Java update is such a frequent pop-up that people are used to clicking on the update without much thought. The Carbonite program is included by default and should be an optional selection. More & more we have to become I.T. specialists just to do regular operations on a computer. The requirement to remove carbonite was another waste of time due to bloatware. Shame on Sun!

I noticed the shortcut on my desktop, the online support says I chose the option. The window got stuck off to the side with only the close button in the corner showing, I couldn't drag it over to see what was going on. dirty bastages

It was really annoying to have this slip in. I think of it as ad-ware since once it gets on the PC it pops up ads for itself. Shame on you Sun.

I had no idea why the Carbonite advertising banner kept popping up on my computer on start-up. After reading this post, I know realize that I am not the only one subjugated to this deceitful, backhanded marketing scheme. I am a full supporter of capitalism; however, I don't condone dishonest marketing tactics. I am going to file a complaint with Carbonite regarding their practice. I suggest everyone do the same.

I have just sent an email to David Friend, CEO of Carbonite:
Hello: I am writing to let you know that I don't approve of your online marketing tactic. More specifically, I was annoyed to learn that when I updated Java, it loaded your advertising banner onto my computer without my knowledge and consent. Every time I would boot my computer, the Carbonite advertisement would pop up on my screen. I am a full supporter of capitalism and free markets, but I believe it comes with integrity, honesty, and being fair in all business dealings. This practice is unfair and dishonest.
There are plenty of avenues for your company to advertise and promote its products and services without intruding on the private property of your potential customers. I strongly urge you stop this practice.
Sincerely and respectfully,
Marc
