Parts of this article (Sun Times) are COMPLETELY ERRONEOUS.
A)"A few years ago, eBay was getting battered by the likes of Amazon.com
and was dismissed as an auctions has-been. Its technology was long in the tooth. And it was losing its iconic CEO, Meg Whitman, whose political ambitions led to a run for California governor in 2010."
WRONG :* Ebay was BURIED by Amazon the Minute it moved away from Auctions.
* The very idea that a BAIN ASSOCIATE could ever hope to coexist with the Ebay Engine is not only "Long in the tooth" but an IMPOSSIBILITY.
* Meg Whitman was the Beginning of the End of Ebay.
B) "Now eBay is betting its future on whipping its technology into shape as it navigates the limp recovery and red-hot competition from rival Amazon and hundreds of smaller, specialized retail sites."
* Ebay's future was Completely, Positively locked in as a source of revenue all on its own. A well established, burgeoning Ecosystem that flourished as a Monetary "Garden of Eden".
Meg Whitman and John Donahoe are the AGENT ORANGE that killed Ebay.
WE are the Miracle Grow that will bring it back. Nothing Else will do it. Must be ALL AMERICAN, closed circuit, Checks and Money Orders first, everything else last, 3 percent cost to sellers, 1998 layout.
C) "The biggest marketplace on the Web — eBay has 93 million active users — is going all in on mobile shopping, a booming market that is projected to top $119 billion by 2015."
* The number of truly active users is nowhere near 93 million. That's just pie in the sky. If that was true PayPal's numbers would be at least that...which it isn't. Active PayPal accounts are also over stated. Closing a PayPal account is all but impossible.
The rest of the article is the standard "Blah Blah Blah", emphasising the fact that Donahoe does not belong at Ebay. He doesn't know what Ebay is, doesn't know who it serves, or how it works.
