A friend of mine bought the extended warranty with next day service..He has bought 5 computers from Dell with no problems but still purchases the extended warranty with nights and weekends to be on the safe side...He had to use the warranty for the first time this week, and found out that Dell doesnt keep their end of the bargain..He called on a Tuesday night at 10 PM and they said that since it was after hours they would put it on wednesdays calender and someone would be out Thursday...No problem there..But when Thursday came ,after calls about the status of getting someone out that day,he found out his parts had been ordered and no one has picked them up yet...Needless to say He DID NOT RECIEVE THE NEXT DAY SERVICE THAT HE PAID 150.00 dollars for..And also the computer is less than a year old...
PS..When he called tech support when his computer first went out,he was instructed by dell to disassemble his entire computer to troubleshoot the problem..Isnt that included in the extended warranty too?For techs to disassemble the computer?
So what are you getting in return for your 150.00 extended warranty..NOTHING!
Dell used to pride themselves with their Customer Service...Doesnt seem to be the case anymore...

When you call tech support you can troubleshoot with them and try to find out the problem or just let them know that you don't want to troubleshoot and you would like an on site tech to fix the problem. so they will do a best guess (based on your description of the issue) and they will send you whatever part they think is the problem and the on site tech will replace the part (replace. they will not troubleshoot). if that was not the problem then you will need to call back tech support and tell them that the part that they sent didn't work. at that point you can troubleshoot to get the right part, try another best guess or give the computer for charity. $150.00 and you want an on site tech to go to your house troubleshoot then call dell so they can send him the part and then go back to your home replace the part.. you will need to pay more than $150 for that kind of service .

I purchased an XPA1530 about a year ago because they made a big deal about how good XPS are and how they have their own technical support team. The only good thing about their technical support team is that they are not in India. As far as their knowledge its the same as if they were in India. I had purchased their 5 year full warranty because I go to college and figured I would either drop it or spill something on it. Since then I have had the following problems.
1) Computer doesn't start up all the time
2) Battery would not come out to troubleshoot
3)Computer would freeze withing minutes of starting up and give errors of hard ware failure (which DELL denies because they don't want to replace it)
Steps taken to fix the issue:
1)Spent hours on the phone with technical support and they couldn't fix it.
2) Send a technician over with a new motherboard which didn't fix it.
3) I sent it back and they replaced the motherboard AGAIN and without testing it they sent it back to me so it still wasn't fixed.
4) And now since they couldn't fix it within 3 tries they said it has to be replaced but in order to do that I have to talk to a "replacement supervisor". However the supervisor has to call me because they are very busy, according to the representatives. I have been waiting for a week and no call and I keep calling back and they have NO IDEA why I'm not getting a call back. So here I am with a $2000.00 laptop that doesn't even turn on. Don't buy dell!!! THEY TAKE YOUR MONEY AND TURN THEIR BACKS!

I bought a hp loptop three years ago & I'm glad never bought or paid for an extended warranty. It is a waste of money & if you buy it new I recommend to let the pc run in burn out test for 48 hours. If the pc showed no abnormal symptoms that mean you will be fine for the next two years & it depend on how you care for your pc. If you are one of those geek that simply to stupid or to careless or don't give a crap on what you have, by all means get an extended warranty. I work as an engineer for 12 years in technology industry & all semi-conductor, pc processor & pc manafucture have done extensive burnout test in all their pc before reaching the market. Lemons do exist & that is why for the first 48 hours it is crucial for any pc owners to verify any problem on their new pc.. Retailers will squeeze every dollar out of consumers to make a buck but extended warranty should any pc manufacturing have in place in all pc. The Japanese have better attitude & they do not like a consumer to waste money & they take pride on their pc. Manufacturing warranty is all anyone need & any warranty beyond is a waste.

I have a current valid warranty and a nagging hardware problem my $2700 XPS 600. Dell fights with me when I try to get the part that I know will fix it. I am engineer with 20 plus years in the PC computer industry and have tools that tell
me what is exactly wrong. Bottom line they are fighting me yet have enough guts to start every call with "your warranty is expiring in 3 months would you like to extend 1 year for $167.00." I am cutting my $2700 loss and running. I vow every major tech company I work for will never buy anything from Dell ever.

It's weird because I've had my system running up for 4 years with warranty the whole time. I'm an extreme user, so I break my laptop quite often, and I know Dell computers tend to break. Since then, I've had my motherboard replaced twice (once because they insist it's the motherboard that's broken, not the graphic card), three graphic cards (two burnt, one they sent me a broken one), 2 LCDs (same reason with motherboard for one of them), casing (looks new o.o), optical drive (forgot why), fans, two keyboards, all for an XPS laptop that's now is 4 years old.

All in all, I think I got my money's worth, but needless to say, there are quite a lot of unlucky ones. Perhaps it might be the way we word our words, and Chat Support is definitely better than phone, because I can just ignore them and do my own stuff for a while if I do chat support O.O

*oh, and all this may not be next day service, but it's within a week, so compared to the service back in my country, I'm satisfied enough

I have a Dell latitude and its the best machine i have ever used. Dell as usaual provided best services. I hacve read the posts above, its just that your expectations are too high. If you go through the service gareements everything is mentioned very clear what all things would be covered. It is a computer so can go bad at anytime.. But the products and service are good enough as compared to hp or lenovo ,toshiba

I bought a NBD 4 year contract with accidental warranty on my DELL XPS M1330 but it does not cover Battary. Battary has only 1 Year.. This is crazy. I think some one need to think of filing a class action against them. These guys way out of their head.

well they have called and repeat the same story but the manager made a "one time exception" to send the replacements for broken battery.

I dont know I bought the extended warrenty for my 2500 dell and it sure has paid off. A year after I bought it i spill a ton of soda on it. Dell sent me a box I sent it in, two weeks later a brand new computer. This summer i spilled water on it and sure enough they replaced everything including the hard drive.

Dell is 1000% better than HP. They drove me crazy and I ended up a laptop with tons of dead pixels. I would still buy Dell.

Daily Horoscope for December 4

Cancer

With the tender Moon waxing in your sign, you're in a romantic mood. This is great if you're with your beloved, whom you trust implicitly. You can have a wonderful time together and the rest of the world will just melt away. Try to be a little more realistic if you're dealing with money matters because there's a strong chance that someone is trying to manipulate you, or part you from what's rightfully yours. Of course, you'd never do something so devious...
