Why go to Delaware?

For all its contributions to American society - it was the first state to ratify the Constitution, it was the site of a pivotal event in rock 'n' roll history, and it's the proud birthplace of both nylon and ... Full Story

Let's not kid around here: the lack of sales tax is intended to favor Delaware residents, not tourists. Delaware leeches its money from out-of-staters by charging by far the highest per-mile toll on its stretch of I-95, and charging in both directions instead of one (like Maryland). Delaware also cranks out more money by having the most pro-business laws, including laws that make it by far the most favorable for business (which is why the huge majority of U.S. companies are registered as Delaware corporations, thus giving the state a huge windfall from registration fees). Unfortunately for the consumer, Delaware's pro-business climate can also mean anti-consumer--the sleazy payday-loan industry, for instance, relies on Delaware banks to front the funds, since DE is one of the very few states that have virtually no usury (loan-sharking) laws. Rehoboth is a nice place, though.

I like De. I've lived here for about 6 years. Lower taxes than PA and NJ. Lower real estate prices also.

Easy access to NYC, Philly, Baltimore and DC.

plus no sales tax.

Let's not forget the Pumpkin-Chunkin contest.

Are there tours of the filing cabinets where all those corporations keep their articles of incorporation?

I would totally pay to see that - not much, but maybe a couple of bucks.

I have to note that Rehoboth Beach is popular with families and with "family": it is famous also as a gay vacation spot. The author sounds like a tolerant, fun-loving guy who would welcome this lovely spot's diversity and live-and-let-live vibe. But he uses a code word that might give fundamentalist so-called Christians out in the scarier suburbs the wrong idea. And nothing wrecks a fun day at the beach more than an invasion of bigots. They've been warned!

The best beach in the state for families is Fenwick Island but I try not to push it because i don't want it to become over crowed

All of Delmarva is worth a visit. Delaware of course is just the northern tip of this unique peninsula. When you are in Lewes, be sure to stop at Cape Henelopen State Park---the dunes, bay front spots, ocean beaches, and bike trails are some of the best on the East Coast. The author isn't joking about Grotto Pizza---don't miss it in Delaware. Nothing beats a slice of pizza from Grotto while walking the boardwalk. Rehoboth does get overcrowded in the summer months--prepare to sit on Route 1 for quite some time. Don't let your vacation stop in Delaware though, travel down into Ocean City, MD, and if you're really up for some adventure take the drive into Virginia's Eastern Shore from there.

Delaware is a unique State with just three counties and interesting inhabitants, it may be the most honest State of all. And why not , it was awarded to William Penn along with Pennsylvania for deeds done by Penn's father to the the crown. Penn of all who preceded us got it right in step one. Fairness was his deal and with fairness comes true honesty.

favor natives? you ever shop in DE?? all the cars at the malls are from PA NJ MD very few from DE.
Delaware also has one of the highest state income taxes due to the lack of sales tax. Check into your knowledege before you bust on it as your info is way off base

It would be "interesting" to see the credit card processing.

I'm sorry, and all you lovely people from Delaware, I'm sure you have a very pretty state; it does have some gorgeous color changes in the fall, but I could not help myself and claim no responsibility for the poor pun posted above this paragraph.

Sambos. That is all I can say. If for nothing else (and there is PLENTY else to be seen there) you should go to Deleware just for the Sambos. Seriously - it sits right on the water and you can see the boats coming in with their catches for the day. The crabcakes are the size of softballs - I'm not kidding....

As said in "Get to Know Delaware," there are Independence Hall and Amish Country, which are in Pennsylvania, which is next to Delaware.

Delaware is the home of "Boss Hog" politics. Joe Biden, Ruthann Minner and their ilk have a lock on things here. Minner has used her eight years as Governor to run our state in the ground. She had a surplus when she started and now the state is broke. The beaches are not very accessible unless you like swarming tourists and traffic log jams. The roads are inadequate. Mosquitos big as crows too because a lot of Delaware is wet and marshy.I live here because family is here.PERIOD!

Lovely, pleasant people and a nice climate near the
Atlantic coast. A great place to visit or live.
