Have you tried to contact your telephone service provider?
In the US, You pay a small fee to have Caller ID enabeled. I assume it is the same in India. Do you know if their systems supports caller ID? If it does, are you subscribed to it? Rick http://www.merassistant.com |

were you able to make the caller id work. i m having the same problem. please let me know.

The caller id in those contries uses a different protocol then in india. For example in the US they use something called BellCore CLID. In india we use DTMF CLID signalling. And no you can't make these work in india other then using an expensive converter.

Guess a CID converter like EX-220 is required. I'm trying for a reliable source to confirm the use of this. Has any one bought and used it in Bangalore?
---------- This converter[FSK TO DTMF] is easily available in Chennai Ritchie Street. Rs 400/- When you observe it looks like a adsl splitter(which is actually not) with one in and two out .Mine has FINTEL ADSL SPLITTER written on it. It does the job. But unlke Ex220 1)-it does not have the time stamp feature. 2)-It does not have a inbuilt battery. 3)-Area Code cannot be set so here if its a local call it shows 1-abc-abc-abcd rather than 044-abcdefgh so callback feature will not be used. |

It is not the telecom provider issue. I have Caller-ID on my line in Bangalore. My US phone does not recognize the Caller ID, while my Indian phone (same model) has no problem.
Perhaps the caller ID feature is different in Asia when compared to US. Like the NTSC/PAL problem with televisions. |
US uses FSK Caller-Id system where the name and number is recieved.India uses DTMF caller Id system, Cheaper one.You can use the converter(EX-220 or any other) to recieve Caller-Id on your Cordless Handset.

Where can I buy the EX220 in pune?
Where can the EX220 be bought online, period !?!? I am sure there must be a lot of us who've purchased these 2.4/5.6 GHz cordless phones from the US only to find out that the called ID functionality used (Bellcore FSK) is not per MTNL/BSNL's usage (DTMF)
Wonder if this item is available on ebay.in or some other such site with pan-india shipping?? |
I also have the same problem. When I talked to BSNL they said me to convert to FSK which is the other way round written in previos messages and what i read on other sites.
