Professor last time I looked newspapers cost$$$ My wife gets them at the local library on mondays. they throw them away.she also gets them from friends who she trades with for the ones she needs. Guess for some folks( yankees) you really do need to explain EVERYTHING! Local store did triple coupons here for the past 3 days. My wife went 3 times and her totals are listed below. BEFORE COUPONS:: 297.04 AFTER COUPONS::: 29.78 alot of this she donated to the local food bank for others who are in need. If everyone would just use their brains, they could do the same thing. I think most people just use their heads to hold the sawdust in. DUH>

Again I have never seen coupons for fresh fruits and veggies. But since you want to name call well I am sure you are about 300lbs because you consume all the crap that are offered with those coupons. And let me guess you are dumb enough to purchase all those cleaning products. So again tell me where to get the coupons for fresh fruits and veggies? If you had a brain maybe you could explain your point without name calling. Grow up. Take the money you bride saves and get some anger management. Love and a big hug from New York.

Sounds like you don’t know how to read store circulars or shop wisely. Do you pay top price for everything?

Well, I am one of the idiots who uses coupons. I have been avergering saving close to 75 percent each time I go to the store. I do buy fresh fruits using the coupons that are in the sunday papers that I get from friends at work. I dont buy fresh veggies as we,like alot of other smart people, have been growing our own. We dont have alot of room but we did manage to grow 10 tomatoe plants in planters on the patio. From them, we have canned 20 qts of spagetti sauce, 20 qts of tomatoes and my next canning will be homemade soup. ALl the tomatoes coming from these plants grown on the patio. As for coupons, there is a local store the doubles coupons and I have managed to save a ton going there. I have been lucky enough to get alot of items we dont use but the church food bank does. We dont eat cold breakfast foods but the food bank can use it. We make our own laundry powders and cleaners so we dont buy those either. We do buy items like mustard and such. We will use a coupon for a item when we are getting it for free or close and donate it to the food bank. If more people did this, the food banks all around the states would not be having to BEG for food to give to the needy. Its rather simple process. Look at the coupons, look at the sale inserts and see what matches. Easy. Just try. Then if you cant figure it out, let me know and I will help you. Then if you dont save money, you can call someone a lier. But dont do it until you try.

-A dear friend of mine, Linda, Told me about this forum and this post. I happen to be a coupon queen also. I have saved tons of money by matching sales to coupons. We also have a garden that we grow our own veggies in and we save a ton by canning them and freezing them. Linda has fruit trees and we can apples, make apple sauce and lots of dried apples for pies. I work full time as a RN and Linda is working full time also. SO we MAKE time to can and freeze veggies so we can save money for other things. My sister is a stay at home mom and she saves tons with coupons and growing her own veggies. If you put your mind to it, you can do it. After all, if THE STUPID SOUTHERNS as you yankess like to refer to us can do it, you should be able to figure it out. Doubt it but at least try

I’m a northerner and know how to shop, grow a garden and can/freeze my on veggies from the garden. Might I add that I know how to buy on sale. Not all us northerners are stupid, just most. Good luck with the gardens down there. It’s been tough up here with colder than normal temps and too much rain.

OK, I'll weigh in here. I love a pissin' contest. Coupons are a wonderful deal and we use them every week and save a bunch of cash at Waldbaums or Pathmark. No arguments there. A savvy shopper wouldn't be caught dead in the kitchen without coupons and a game plan for the weekly groceries. However, several times a year we make the trip to Costco for non-food items mostly and save a bundle - electronics, printer ink, computer paper, hardware, small appliances, CDs, books, toiletries, etc. Then we'll grab some groceries in bulk that we use, that will last, and that will save us some cash in the LONG run. We shop Costco with cash or a debit card and usually spend somewhere between $300 and a couple of grand. We can afford it and it's cost effective. If you've got some money because you've worked all your life and are not a slacker or a breeder dependent on government handouts you can't beat the deals at Costco but I wouldn't shop there with twenty bucks and a bunch of food stamps. The crowds and hassle are just not worth it. You don't go there weekly - you work the Costco coupons for stuff you need and then you go to load up. OK, keep pissin' on each other - I've had my say.

Wow. A forum free-for-all on shopping. Some people have patience to sit there and clip coupons; some don't. People shop at Costco not just for potential savings, but for the huge diversity of high-quality merchandise, clean stores and great, efficient service. Crowded, dirty supermarkets with long lines aren't for everyone.
