But wait! Wasn't Costco a bad thing just a couple of months ago when it was possibly going into the County? Apparently if it's in the city the small businesses in the city will be alright.

Don't trust any city or county politician! They are all liars!

I certainly agree with the first part here. The arguments the City Council is using now is the same thing DDR was saying about the development at the Masonite Site. During that process the City Council said it was a bad idea. And now that it's within city limits it's magically OK. Anyone looking for the definition of hypocrisy should just look at the last 2 years of statements from the Ukiah City Council.

When shopping in Ukiah in the near future. You can park your car and gaze around it will feel like your shopping in Santa Rosa. Yes Ukiah is destined to look like every other city to the south of us. It will not be long and we will never have leave Ukiah for our shopping needs. This is also a great day for our city government. The tax revenue is badly needed. Maybe a new fleet of cars is in order in celebration.

the argument wasn't against Costco, it was against a large-scale mall development; this seems to be a common, yet mistaken, assumption.

Cosco, a letter of intent from these egg sucking bureaucrats isn't worth the paper it's written on.

That's how I understood it, that and DDR tried to go around the checks and balances of the planning process.

So ... yay! But a new Costco is still many years away.

There are many of us who opposed the Crossroads boondoggle, but who would welcome a Costco. The County government folks are just going to have to accept the fact they won't be getting those sales tax dollars. Based on what I have seen, I would rather have the City managing that money, anyway.

No, the objection was not to Costco, but to the overbuilding of retail that would have come with an 800,000+ sq. foot development that would have drained business away from everyone else. And the DDR project was bypassing any environmental review or ability to make them pay for necessary improvements. The opponents said all along that Costco could locate on land already zoned for it. Looks like that is what will happen now.

Also, where are all the naysayers who said the City was throwing its money away, that they would never find a buyer, that Costco would NEVER locate in the Airport Business Park? Eat your words.

Don't fear change! The Ukiah of today does not look like the Ukiah of 1960 when I came to town. The future will be full of changes and Ukiah just keeps getting better and better.
