Wal-Mart will acquire all (approx. 365) Costco stores in the United States and Puerto Rico, re-branding them all as re-modeled Sam's Clubs. Around the next two to four years, Sam's Club will be quickly expanded and have more than 1,000 Sam's Club stores nationwide. These stores, formerly the locations of all 365 Costco stores nationwide, will have the following features: * A full-line "big-box grocery" department * A full-line "big-box merchandise" department * A pharmacy with a drive-thru lane * A snack bar * A tire and oil change shop * An optical center Around next year, Wal-Mart Stores will no longer build any 150,000 square-feet Costco stores, but will now only build 150,000 square-feet Sam's Clubs instead. Around the next four years, Costco will no longer be in operation.

Costco outperforms Sam's in every category, even though they pay higher their payroll percentage is lower then Sam's because they sell 2-1 over Sam's, even if the evil empire was lucky enough to stumble onto such good fortune, it is unlikely they would be stupid enough to downgrade location performance by slapping a Sam's name badge on the outside. Keep putting your application in at Costco, you may get lucky one day....

You are out of your mind, Sam's Club isn't in the sam league as Costco, Costco's employees are devoted %100 to the company and that reflects on the business. There's a reason you hear about Costco all over the media and hardly hear of Sam's club, the Wal-mart corp. is ruining North America with their poor wages. I will never step foot in a Sam's club ever, that was the most outrageous thing I've ever heard.

Me thinks this guy has some screws loose . I've been a Costco employee for 8 years and am in management if something this big was going on in the company i would know. Costco is the leader in box stores sales and our member service is what makes our company far superior than sam's. Not to mention far better products for the buck.

After my experience this past week with sam's club there is no way they will ever compare with cosco. I am both a sam's club and cosco member. I purchased new tires from sam's this past week (because they had the best price). Little did I know they sold and installed the tires while their tire balancing machines were all not working. After four return trips and not being able to drive my car above 80km for alost a week they are still not fixed. I am sure I would never have had this problem at cosco. Any time I have returned or had a problem with a product cosco has always made sure I have been satisfied the first time. Needles to say I will only be renewing one membership and it wil NOT be my sam's club one.

What does Costco pay managers and what kind of benefit package is included? I've been a production manager for 11 years and was in management in the computer sales and service field for many years before that. Would that get me in the door or do they strictly want previous retail sales management experience?

I am both Costco and a Sam's club mamber,( Costco member for 6 years)to really shop I go to Costco and to look around for cheap deals I go to Sam's club, It is not hard to belive that the quality of the items and FOOD specially that Costco sells it is on top of the line, The Sam's club doesn't get any closer to the freshness of their products as the Costco does, just too bad! I'll keep shoping at Costco for everythingelse

I don't know of a costco near me. Never been in one. I have been a member of sam's club before but found that I could buy most of the same merchandise at Walmart or Office max for the same or a lower price and not have to drive as far or pay a stupid membership fee. The whole idea of a membership fee to shop in someone's store is ridiculous and repulsive to me. Although it may offer some security to the store it is still ridiculous that I feel like I'm having to pay them for the privaledge of shopping there and giving them my money. The membership thing keeps out the riff raff (kinda sorta)...but it also keeps out the general public. My time is far too important to sit around filling out paperwork for a membership so I can bring my money to the store. If they want my money they will offer me great service and want me to come in FREE OF CHARGE.

I'm a senior manager for Costco. Started on carts, paid my way through college and am now making a good living working for a great company. The stock speaks for itself and the membership base's growth only echoes it. Great pay, great benefits, morally upright leadership. Costco will always be #1.

So I guess the voting dollars of the majority of shoppers don't count in their opinion, only yours?? Sam's is walmarts poor imitation of Costco, see "the only company walmart fears" Fortune magazine 2003 or any number of articles outlining the companies differences. The fact remains that the almighty dollar has the last vote and fortunately it doesn't state B.S. like people do. If your loacation is fact you just received your first costco within two hours from you less then a year ago....

I was a Sam's club member until Costco moved into the area about 1 1/2 years ago. After shopping at Costco and comparing with Sam's Club, I did not renew my Sam's membership. Locally Costco is a cleaner store, very helpful personnel (and you can actually find someone to help you), better store lighting, aisles not cluttered, good selection, good inventory, better parking and I could go on and on. The only thing I miss at Costco is a good car wash which Sam's had. Gas pumps at Costco are much easier to get to. Oh yes, Costco charges about $20 more/year membership but mail out many, many discount coupons. One final comment, absolutely no hassle on returns/exchanges/refunds.
