Costco has been trying to put a gas station in for years now and Montebello has done nothing but drag there feet and make excuses. Good for you Costco and once again bad for Montebello....Get a grip City Hall.

this particular location is horrible to begin with, and the parking lot format blows a fat one. Adding a gas station will only worsen the situation

with only one entrance/ exit the current Costco configurtion is inadequate for its current operation much less with a gas station. Inadequate parking as it is whetre would you put a gas station without removing parking?

The Costco @ Montebello is so Ghetto. Hate the parking, and IF they indeed add a gas station the parking issues would worsen. UNLESS, they add a parking structure or somehow open up the back area to lower shops by Sears. Never understood why Costco is by itself, with another strip mall in another lot. I could care less anyway, I shop at the La Habra Costco, its so much nicer. Plenty of parking and it has a gas station. The Costco @ Norwalk is just as bad as Montebello, GHETTO!

How did Costco get approve at the spot it is in now with only one entrence and terrible internal circulation? Are those parcels on Montebello blvd big enough for a costco? Are the five Whittier Blvd Properties next to Ostrom big enough for a Costco? Where else? Jimmies? The City financed insider coffee shop?

Thanks Bill Molinari, you continue to keep Montebello looking older and older. Why don't you get out of politics and leave the business to the developers, at least this way the City can make some money.

Agree.....this is why I shop at the Los Alamitos/Cypress location. Much nicer and also has a gas station.

I don't shop around Montebello, it's scummy and all you see at the new town center are gang bangers! It's not safe to be around this town in the day or night.

Why can't Costco gas be served valet style like at the El Monte airport. A fuel truck comes to your plane, fills it, and you get billed. Costco could have a kiosk inside the store (which is where they want you, anyhow) You leave the gas door open, take note of the parking stall number and head inside. You swipe the cards. A nice kid comes with a truck and fills your car while you shop. No more of that ferkaka process they have now where you wait in line while an idiot acts like it is their first time seeing a gas pump.

As noted in the above comments, Cosco has for years been trying to get the city to assist them in redeveloping the Sears shopping center so that they would be able to expand the store. And once again the city in it's great progressive outlook on developement has once again screwed things up. Probabally a LOCAL CONTROL issue with "Were on the verge of an economic boom" Bill Molinori.. Well Bill, what are you going to do when Costco relocates???? I know, maybe you can have your wife move her dress shop from Downey into Montebello. I certainly can't see Cosco passing up an oppurtunity to relocate to a new much larger building with the much desired fuel islands. Then again maybe they will stay and wait for Molinori to use the CRA money, which they don't have to help them expand. Unless the gas station is going on the roof, it will never happen...You go Bill, we are all waiting to see your next act of leadership.

Does Costco Own the Sears shopping area? Help them expand? If they want to expand let em. If they want the Sears Shopping area and they do not own it they can buy it and buy out Sears. The are not going to get free space in Monterey Park- That project has been held up for years due to lack of economic viability and the inability to land an anchor tenatn. Home depot is in then they're out So who is the anchor tenant this year? Rosemead did not let Wal Mart have gas pumps and did not subsidise the wall mart Maybe that's why they have $20 million in the bank and Montebello does not.
I agree that pumps at the present traffic challanged location is a non starter. Exactly how did Rosie, with her great progressive outlook, screw up on Costco? If she said no to the gas pumps at that loation she made the right call.

Theolona- The Redevelopment Agency own's all that property. Costco, Sears they are all just tenants. What Jafo55 was saying is that this has been a long standing issue with Costco that the City has failed to help them with. If the City does not get with the program and help the businesses that they already have, then why would anyone want to relocate here. This is a very competitive market municipalities must think BIG out of the BOX. Not old this is the way we have always done it. And again, Rosemead has County Fire and Sheriff it really helps when you save that big nut in your General fund. Sears has approached the City about a Bigger Store?? Hum, can anyone say, maybe Mervyns would have been a good place for them to go? Then the City could have helped Costco. That's the type of problem solving the City and it's leaders have failed in. Just my two cents!

Theolona- I think Rosemead also has a Utility Tax. Not absolutely sure but 85%. I guess we could use our Phone a Friend!! LOL

So how is the City supposed to "help" them? The Sears center is full Costco is overful forever 21 is a part of Mervins so the lease evidently continues. What's keping Sears from buying Mervins lease out if they thought that would be the best business decision? What do you mean "help"? put all of them in a room and negotiate? have they done that? I guarantee you that Rosemead would not "help" with mega dollars or sales tax hollidays.
