My child is a special needs student@ Arlington, I really feel like we don't have a voice in this fight - due to the fact that enrollment is down for the entire school, but the special needs group is even smaller. I'm wondering what they plan to do with the special ed students w/special needs.

There is plenty of rich white folks that could certianly deal with a small tax raise in the state to keep this important school viable.

The issue isn't more money is needed, but one of gross mismanagement by district officials. Silva is one of these individuals along with the current DFL school board. They have practiced job protection, over running our district for its intended purpose, to educate our children.

Let these parents who want to keep it open pay for it and then see how long they want it open for.

Then pay for it. Why is everyone elses responsibility to pay for your school. If YOU live in that schools district then you pay for it. To bad so sad, the rest of the population has had to deal with school closings and you are no more entitled then the next person. You voted these people in now deal with the consequences of your stupidity. Ask Obama for the money - he seems bent on spending everyone elses mnoey.

If you've lived in the dfl regime in St Paul any length of time, you would have observed that poor people don't matter. The 1st services curtailed are in the low income neighborhoods. Sackett Playground would be a classic example. Next time: think before you vote.

amazing i never see articles from the socialist media pimps on when little johnny get relocated to a FREE college education to another building. or when they first arrive to the community--these great journalists playbook is so over played-- but the folks --keep getting duped---- maybe the schoolboard should recommend a override on taxation to all those attending these involved schools????????? so the socialist media pimps have more to dupe you about their ability not being able to pay-- and their neighbors have {social justice] to pay their way in life

Perhaps you should have payed more attention in grammar class and less time trying to feel victimized by "Tha man." Wake up to yourself, brother.

Its wonderful that students and parents support the school and teachers. But economics and student enrollment mean that those schools should be closed.

Time to go back to neighborhood schools. Stop the bussing and keep kids in thier neighborhoods. SPPS has more than enough funds to educate our kids, thier priorities are all wrong. Education MN is running the school board and running roughshod over all the students. Teachers get the brunt of complaints, however it is Education MN, School Boards and Parents that cause children to fail.

Closing schools is always a difficult task no matter how necessary. Arlington appears to be a beautiful facility from the outside so am not sure what the writer is talking about when noting that AHS has always had a bad reputation since it opened nearly 15 years ago, e.g. low test scores? Lack of student interest in learning? Lots of arrogant ignorant students and parents? Other? All of us have faced similar situations where a school or two had to close including a high school so the Arlington et al changes are certainly not unique albeit no less painful to many just as other school closings were to many others. The kids will survive to live another day. The sun will still come up each morning. Etc., etc..

This is really the district's own fault, and the years of social engineering and cowtowing to the left wing has given them Arlington. They poured millions of dollars into a neighborhood parents don't want to send their kids to; i can't imagine spending a lot of evenings in this area for school activities myself. THEN they make it the dumping ground for kids who were either expelled from other schools, those who came late to the district, or those who didn't get into their school of choice. NOW they want to penalize the kids who attend there. And expanding it to 12th grade in two years. WHAT? Let the juniors and seniors graduate from the school they have attended. It certainly seems that the board doesn't understand the school district's history, but my goodness, they've all been around forever. Well, some have. Some were elected to the board having never attended a board meeting in their lives, but that's a post for election time. Yep, another reason my tax dollars are either going to a charter high school or another district altogether.
