Good call - but a little late. This never should have been an issue in the first place. The Homeless Services Center board needs to take swift action now to ensure that this type of thing never happen again, and to let the public know exactly how they are going to proceed from this point forward. At least, that's what they need to do if they want to try to regain any credibility with the community.

Unusual move. Typically one is put on paid leave pending the investigation and trial. This sets up the shelter for a wrongful termination suit if for whatever reason the accused is found innocent or the case is dropped. That could really hurt the Shelter's finances.

The Sentinel didn't "uncover" this event through any great investigative reporting as they seem to imply. You can be assured that someone called them with the information and it was simply confirmed through public records. Nonetheless, I'm glad it came out and this person (with appropriate due process) receives whatever he deserves.

Dr. Loisel was not fired due to his current legal problems, but because of "non-performance." I'm sure this will prevent a wrongful termination suit. California is an at will employment state...an employer can fire you at any time for any reason...

The way the law works is "Innocent Until Proven Guilty". He is only accused at this point. He is Charged. Not convicted. He admits to his faults. This girl making the allegations may be lying. Ever think of that? If he is found innocent in court, Genevieve, you will owe him a huge apology. Shame on you.

How about the recruitment team that hired him? Never let them hire anyone again. This town loves its bums and people down on their luck. They don't even consider that they have never held a job or don't even want to.

Who cares if he's found innocent in court? He admits to having had a "romantic relationship" with a 16 year old! This girl was six years younger than Loisel's daughter...GROSS! He admits to having had a drinking/drug problem! He is blaming the 16 year old, "she came onto me". He was unreachable to his employers to discuss this on Tuesday!

As it turns out Doctor Doug Loisel's license has been inactive for years! I wonder if the Homeless Service Center knew this?

That is the lamest, most asinine excuse I have ever heard from a grown man and is the typical mentality of sick predators - "She made me do it!." He also admitted to being an alcohlic (alcohlics will always be alcoholics - just in different stages). And given his mired situation and the position he held, there was no good excuse to be 'unreachable' to his employers to discuss the matter. And obviously he committed the sin of omission when he applied for the position in the first place. Given what he had done and the position that he was applying for, he is guilty at least of being dishonest and unethical. It was a no-brainer to fire him. Wildma, are you really a sleazy lawyer for the ACLU?

"...Loisel, whose annual salary was $76,000..."
The director of homeless services makes $76,000 per year!!! Meanwhile, roads still need to be repaired and police officers have been laid-off.

Yes, the Homeless Service Center ABSOLUTELY should have done a background check on this man, and they obviously don't have their shit together, but if the HSC were to be shut down, then what would happen to the homeless people who depend on it? I'm completely disgusted by the fact that this was allowed to happen at all, but the homeless population doesn't need to suffer anymore from the fact that the people that are supposed to be helping them are doing a terrible job at it.

Did nobody stop to ask themselves why a guy would take a huge pay cut like that?
