With the combined sales taxes at well over 10% in the city, I can't say that I'll fight my way into downtown Chicago to go shopping at any of those stores any time in the near future. Heavy traffic, high gas prices, expensive parking, and high taxes. You can only bleed people so much before they're completely dry and choose not to come back.

The Chicago suburbs have plenty to offer, even if it's not always the same designer name stores. And if you can do your shopping outside of Cook County, it's even better because you're not lining Todd's pockets. What were people thinking when they elected that guy?

Why did we need two "Vickies" across the street from one another?

Well said! And if you can just shop online with a good coupon code or during free shipping promotions, you don't need to go into the stores at all.

Better yet, just buy your Columbia sportswear at other department stores (such as Kohls) at half the price of what the Michigan Ave. store will charge. As for Victoria's Secret, overpriced bras and panties don't make a woman sexy. My wife in one of my Target t-shirts turns me to putty. Save your money.

and if you find a "virtual model" online you don't even have to go outside at all!! It's called socializing. You've heard of it, interacting with people.

I wouldn't buy anything at the Mag Mile stores but one day it would be nice to go there and wander around and see what changed since the last time I took a "for fun" trip downtown. What happened to the old Virgin Records store?

I find it hard to believe that retailers are rebelling against the tax.
