What about Peabody and their contract? Have they signed it? Is there anything in the contract for already retired miners?

What about retiree's health insurance during negotations --(over next few weeks of trying to get new contract with Peabody)? My wife Woodie and I were susposed to go on the the Pebody retiree's insurance 2-1-07, but have not received the paperwork - we asked for them - will we get the enrollment paperwork - will there be coverage? I could not get hold of Gwen Jackson in Peabody insurance office today -(paperwork could be in the mail?). Will there be any health coverage by Peabody for retirees while talks are going on, will we be able to get enrolled/coverage while talks are in prgress? Are talks with UMWA and Peabody going on now - today? David Sells worked for the Squaw Creek Mine owned by Alcoa and operated by Peabody in Boonville, Indiana union local 1189.
thank you.

I think this new contract is a slap in the face to older retired miners. we should have got more of a raise on our pesions.I worked 34 years underground and paid into the strike fund and never seen a peeny of that money. I think some of that money should have been divided up to the already retired miners.

So whats up with PinnOak Resources LLC OakGrove Mine?
Why is the company not willing to sign? I think there should be more information out there for the miner's at this mine. What is the point in being so secretive? It's their jobs at stake!!

My husband received a letter from Cecil Roberts today and it doesn't sound good. I think Peabody wants each mine/local??? to negotiate separately.Doesn't make sense to me.Did you all get a letter?

If we do not stand up now with Peabody its all over with. Here in West KY they already have several mines operating non-union. Most workers are ex umwa men and won't sign a union card. There is only one UMWA Peabody mines left here and it is not under the national agreement. It is under an MOU, it sucks. They offered us a new MOU. In Aug. 2006 fo 5 years. It offered .75 raise year 1,.75 year 2, and .30 for each addional year. Also was going to take away a lot of stuff. It failed 300 something against and 40 fools for it. WE WANT ME TOO AGREMENT!!!!!!! This is a Fortune 500 Company we are talking about. They are supposed to be socially responsible and highly ethical. Who deserves the highest pay and benefits??The Coal Miner!! I greatly value my husband and his entire profession and know how dangerous coalmining can be.

Here is the deal. Peabody has agreed to the contract, with the but they want to exclude Highland 9 Mine that I work at and a mine in WV. They want to do them a part form national agreement. They already have screwed us for 5 years. I hope the UMWA holds out for use and the mines in WV included. Peabody has other non-union mines in our area that they are tring to orignaize if they do not get national agreement at our mines, They will never orignize them.

UNITED WE STAND, DIVIDED WE FALL!!!!!!!!!!

Daily Horoscope for June 4

Aquarius

The emotional atmosphere is quite potent under this Lunar Eclipse, evoking a sense of crisis. The problems you've been experiencing with a certain person lately come to a head during the next fortnight, making you feel that you have to take drastic action or lay down the law. Yet this could make the situation worse than ever, especially if you act from a sense of panic or desperation. Take things gently and don't throw your weight around unless it's absolutely necessary.
