CIGNA Employee Flips Off Mother Of Girl Who Died, Denied a Transplant

Full story: snafu-ed.blogspot.com

You may recall the case of Nataline Sarkisyan, 17, who was denied a liver transplant by CIGNA, on the grounds that the operation was "too experimental." Nine days later, following a number of protests, the company changed its mind, but it was too late: Nataline died hours later, on Dec. 20, 2007.

On Dec. 10, Sarkisyan and her doctors made the first request for Cigna to pay for the liver transplant.

Cigna hired an oncologist and transplant surgeon to review the appeal but never reversed its clinical decision.

On Thursday, Dec. 20, 150 nurses picketed Cigna. Many more called the company.

Later that day, Cigna contacted Geragos and UCLA to say it was making a one-time exception to the process and would cover the treatment.

Though the company still believed it was experimental, it would pay out of its own pocket (not that of Nataline Sarkisyan's mother's employer) for the procedure.

But Cigna's reversal came too late. That same day, Nataline Sarkisyan was taken off life support and died.

A day after their daughter died, the Sarkisyans held a press conference with Mark Geragos to announce a lawsuit against Cigna.

======

The mysterious part of the narrative is whether a liver was truly ready to be transplanted. If there was a liver, why was it held up?

It's not enough for the insurer to deny coverage. The doctors and the hospital--especially a nonprofit institution like UCLA--must decline to work for free.

Government does the same thing.

Obama's central planning apparatus is advising doctors to ration swine flu treatment and it cost one Texas teen her life.

http://www.khou.com/news/state/stories/khou09...

She says her daughter’s symptoms began with a fever Wednesday. By Friday, Osborne said a visit with a Fort Worth doctor confirmed her 14-year-old daughter had the flu, possibly the swine flu.

But Chloe went home from the doctor's visit without Tamiflu, the medication that can ease the flu's severity.

"They were advised by the CDC to not give Tamiflu to people that were normally healthy," Osborne said. "So, they wouldn't treat her."

Read some of the posts by the masochists who act against their own self-interest and defend the insurance thieves.

Aren't you defending the Stalinists who want to force Americans into ObamaCare against their wishes?

I posted the example of how big government in its wisdom causes young girls to die also.

Shameful, isn't it?

Danny is ignorant and over emotional. He isn't worth bothering with. He, along with Responsibility, Gliberal, Lance Winslow, and Marine Corp Pat, assume too much and just make fools out of themselves. We know the truth.

I kinda blame the parents for her death. I would have had the operation done for my daughter and haggled about who paid for it later.

Dumb. Just dumb. Further proof Republicans are the scummiest creatures to drag their knuckles over America. Hospitals, doctor's offices, dentists and vision care providers don't operate or provide services without first ensuring they will get compensation.

Enough with the "big government" baloney. We're talking about a public option, which is actually a lousy name for it. If it were called a public choice, the country would be even more in favor of it.
The Public Choice would be a non-profit alternative to private insurance. The private sector is all in favor of competition. Well here's their chance.

I don't know why he has spent 1.3 million to hide his records by presidential decree and in the courts, but I do find it funny that today Michele Obama could track her family back 5 generations to slavery from a girl with no last name and yet Obama can't find and show his long form birth certificate or school records from one generation ago.......simply amazing, just like santa clause, easter bunny and yogi bear are real.
