Notice that there are no longer any Dodd defensive comments being submitted. Compare today's response with that for Kevin's first piece. Even his staff has abandoned him.

The FBI, and Nora Dannehy a prosecutor should start an investigation on Dodd.
A full investigation of Dodd is in order and if found innocent so be it. If guilty off the jail.
FBI do your job.
Attorney General Richard in Hartford. How about your office doing something for the tax payers. Get off your butt and look into Dodds deals.

For you who do not know Dodd, here is the story. Dodd and His wife are Royalty and it's high time for you Democrat
critics to understand democracy in today's evironment. The worker bees will get back to work like the drones that they are and re-elect his majesty.

The only chance the Republicans have of winning that Senate seat is if Dodd (D-Countrywide) remains in office, runs for re-election and is defeated.

If some high-ranking Democrat is able to convince Dodd that he is DONE, and maybe finagle him a job as an Ambassador or maybe president of a school like Trinity or Connecticut College, he can step aside and let another Democrat like Blumenthal take his place in DC.

If he is in real trouble with the law, the best place for him to stonewall may be in the Senate.

Like father, like son. What a shameful legacy.

Kevin, thank-you for keeping the heat on Dodd. He has done nothing for his constituents, but everything for himself for the past few years. The election in 2010 needs to be focused on his accomplishments in the last term. Since he spent that time gallivanting around the country on a vanity run for president, padding his wallet, and filing false financial statements, I would say he gets an 'F'.
It is time for Dodd to go, people Do not wax nostalgic about what he once did. The only reason he is even 'busy' now is that Ted has charged him to do stuff for him because the dems know Dodd is in trouble, and needs to get his 'liberal cred' back. Even that silly campaign ad with Obama giving a 'shout out " shows how desperate he is.
Everything about his new financial filing on the Irish cottage smacks of falsehood, as do all of his excuses for holding out on his "friends of Angelo",mortgage filings. He insults the intelligence of the voters when he say he had no idea of favorable treatment. The Senate ethics committee (an oxymoron) should censure him . He should be indicted for corruption. Still some people think he is their fair-haired Senator;, but for most of us struggling through a recession with impending layoffs,he needs acting lessons, because he is so phony. Dodd is not a public servant, but self-serving.
By the way, his wife is not a financial auditing expert because she did public relations for a bank.I do not see a CPA, CISA, economics or finance credentials in her resume. I am supporting Sam Caligiuri, who is younger, smarter, and ethically superior to Dodd, and does not carry the baggage Simmons does.

Thankfully, Kevin Rennie has the guts to report all of this. Wondering why - again - the bad news doesn't land on page 1 of the Courant. I would think the fact that this state's senior US Senator is under FBI investigation would warrant at least the same kind of exposure as Dodd's "shout-out" from Obama after enactment of his wishy-washy credit card bill or his taking on the healthcare crisis (at a time when his wife sits on the Boards of four healthcare companies - no conflict there, though, right?)

Hard to tell who's abrogating their responsibilities more: Dodd or the Courant.

The other question is: will Dodd leave office before the Courant goes out of business? If not before, then immediately after. After all, who'd be coming to his defense every time he steps in it?

I agree with everything you wrote about Dodd, my friend, but take issue with your take on the two Republicans who are in the race. I'm supporting Simmons because I think his Washington experience (not baggage) his name recognition and his ability to raise money nationally as a former congressman will make him a stronger bet to unseat Dodd than Sam Caligiuri.

Let's respectfully agree to disagree, then unite behind the Republican nominee after a primary or the convention and send Dodd packing once and for all!

Bill-
There is a fundraiser for Caligiuri in Enfield on June 26.(google Carpet City Chronicle)I am looking forward to meeting him then. My point about supporting Sen. Caligiuri is that he has stood up valiantly in the last session against some ridiculously liberal initiatives put forth by the leadership of the judicial committee. I do not think he would be afraid to stand up for principles in the U.S. Senate.
Mr. Simmons is of course also preferable to Dodd. But in his last campaign, he did not seem astute enough to quickly counter some of Courtney's tactics.I think that Senator Caligiuri will be significantly more energetic, is a young family man, and will attract the votes of some of the gen-nexters who have been getting sold a future of national debt and reduced expectations. Even my daughter who is a liberal college student is angry about all of the people who gamed the financial aid system by trading up to McMansions, bought new cars and emptied their bank balances, before filing their FAFSAs. Meanwhile we frugally socked as much as possible into IRAs and savings and drove 80's econo cars. Those are some of the people who caused the mortgage crisis. Guess who are now in need of a bailout at the cost of the taxpayers. That mounting national debt will be on the backs of our kids, our grandkids.
If Caligiuri does not win the Republican primary, I will vote for Simmons. Oh, yes and I plan to change my voter registration soon from Democratic to Republican.
The important issue is that we need people like Rennie or even Helen Ubinas who recently questioned Dodd's veracity and pointed out that the voting public always seems to have a short memory or attention span, to remind us that Dodd should be indicted and that he is just another corrupt politician, not a public servant. We must vote him out.

Fair enough, buddy, and if Sam happens to win the convention/primary, he'll have my vote. While I'm sticking with Simmons, if he loses, I'd be very comfortable voting for Caligiuri.

Good pickup on Helen Ubinas, who hammered Dodd for lying and being out of touch. Even Rick Green has been critical of our senior Senator. If Dodd can't read the handwriting on the wall, it will be our - the voters'- pleasure to help him out the door next year.

I can't wait.

There's something missing from all of this: an evidence-based charge that Dodd did something wrong. Rennie says that Dodd got a special deal from Countrywide. Did he ask for it? Has it affected his actions in any way? Was he even aware of it? We just don't know--yet.

Rennie tries to tie Dodd to corruption, but he has no rope.

Ok, Jack Dharma-
Let's parse this in terms of ethical standards. tHere it is: Dodd knew that he got a VIP mortgage rate from Countywide. Countywide is directly regulated and affected by the Senate Banking committee. Dodd has been the ranking Democrat on that committee for years, and chairs that body. It looks like pay for play to me. This constitutes receiving a favor in exchange for a consideration in how that entity does business. How did Countywide benefit? Hmmm.. let's say they got no citations for all of their sub-prime lending. Was Dodd asleep at the switch, as he disingeniously claims: that he had no idea what a VIP rate was? If so, then he is incompetent, and let's get someone more attuned to his/her constituents. Or was he just deliberately overlooking an obvious advantage that you or I would not have been accorded, in expectation that we would not object to him receiving favoritism, because he is entitled after all those years as senator, or he thinks we, the voters are not alert or smart enough to see a breach in ethics.
As for his pal's pardon from Clinton: Dodd proposed the pardon and had just done his bit as Democratic National Committee /Campaign Chair, so Clinton was feeling inclined to grant the pardon as a gesture of appreciation to Dodd. Once the pardon was granted, Dodd bought out his newly pardoned pal's share in the Irish cottage for a fraction of what it was worth during one of the biggest Irish housing booms in its history. Sounds unethical to me. Play for pay. When you are a public servant, you should be far above the sniff level of corruption, not be self-serving.
Oh and those board positions his wife pulls down big bucks for are obviously because she is the wife of a United States Senator. My husband has more financial auditing credentials than she does, but oh, he is married to an unemployed high school teacher, so no big bucks for us. Instead he can look forward to more outsourcing, or downsizing because his company got raided by corporate greed at the top.
Now we learn his wife sits on boards for Big Pharma, and he is working on the healthcare initiative. Things are getting really stinky if you ask me.

Then why doesn't Dodd release the Countrywide papers and put all this to rest? After all, he promised us he would - and that was a year ago now.
