I can recall many years ago that "The Economist" magazine implied, rather shouted, that the abolishment in the late 90's of the Glass Steagle act would be akin to opening pandoras box. They were right. Most banking laws put into motion in the 30's came forward as a result of the excesses of Wall Street in the 20's. Those laws were put there in order to protect the average citizen and to reign in bad banking and Wall Street practices which led us into the great depression. No one in this administration has talked about reenacting the laws pushed aside in the 90's under the Clinton administration. On top of that, right under our noses, in the name of the "middle class" Biden and Obama are promoting the wrongly named, "Freedom of Choice act" which will wipe out labor laws enacted to protect the (all American concept of the secret ballot) and the average workers rights, in the name of big labor which is clearly guilty, in part, for the current destruction of the noncompetitive 72 dollar per hour auto industry in our country. We may be fools all while those at the top continue to do very well. If there is no wrong doing on the part of this congressman, then no harm done in revealing the facts of the Countrywide transactions.

Thank you for finally stepping up. Dodd epitomizes what's wrong with our political system. Privileged, elitiest, smug, arrogant to an extreme, and intellectually and personally oblivious to his constituent's phlight.

Mickey Mouse would "roll" him in 2010.. He's toast.

Nicely done. No one should be in Washington too long. It's just near impossible to maintain a sense of reality.

Why are you hassling poor Chris Dodd? You know, his dad was a senator, so this is like an entitlement program. And the man has three houses--it's tough to keep them all straight.

Nect thing you'll be expecting Geithner and Daschle to pay their taxes

Think this editorial was written because Glenn Beck on Fox News the other ight went after Dudd and had an editor from the Courant on. Only question I would have asked if I was Beck is why haven't you pushed this issue a long time ago? Of course you will never hear a bad word about Dudd on the liberal stations. I think the Courant should demand the release and to keep it up. But then again they will support Dudd in the next election

No mention has ever been made of the fact that the building firm that built all those cheapo apartments in East Hartford that has turned the town into a popular Ghetto, were built by a former member of the Dodd Staff by using the political power available through poor
political Zoning practices.

If I am not mistaken, Hannity also had a story about Senator Dodd's noncompliance.

It is painfully clear, that due to his noncompliance on this matter, Senator Dodd is guilty of all charges lodged against him.

Whether his activity with Countrywide was criminal in nature is unknown at this point. At the very least, he was unethical and as such, in my view, he has lost his moral authority to lead.

The Courant (and all Connecticut newspapers) should pursue this matter daily until Senator Dodd comes clean.

The first question to Senator Dodd at any future newsconference should be regarding his mortgages.

Don't let this rascal off the hook.

You're putting way too much faith in the Connecticut voters. Dodd is a Democrat. As such he could drown kittens, feed puppies to sharks, pi$$ on the Lincoln memorial at high noon and the faithful Democrat and "independent" voters would send him back to Washington like good faithful Democrat drones.

This behavior was well known decades ago:

One other thing.

'Waffling' suggests indecision.

I submit to you that there is no indecision on Senator Dodd's part in this matter.

My guess is that if he stonewalls it, the electorate will eventually forget about it, and reelect him in 2010.

Senator Dodd has always had great contempt for the electorate and it is on full display here.

Finally, The Courant needs to start writing about the real culprits of the current credit crisis.

In that editorial, Senator Dodd would get top billing again.

With all that he has done for a our financial system, do we really want Senator Dodd as the agent of change for healthcare?

Maybe he'll haul those Countrywide executives back to his committee and give them all a good scolding for giving him a sweetheart mortgage deal. Yeah, that's the ticket.

Dodd (& Frank) should be put on trial, and then in prison for their engineering of the Fannie and Freddie affirmative action mortgage giveaway and cash kickback scheme, which has devastated the banking industry, businesses and individuals, Countrywide.

Bush and the Republicans, for all their faults, tried to regulate Fannie and Freddie.

The Democrats were all for regulation, until it was Fannie and Freddie that were going to be regulated.

Why isn't Torquemada Waxman dragging politicians to the Hill for hearings you ask? Because it is his fellow Democrats who would be the ones in the hot seat.

I am a firm believer in "innocent until proven guilty"
I am also a firm believer in full disclosure by all politicians.
Every voter, of every party, should DEMAND that Mr. Dodd release all information concerning Countrywide.Every newspaper should keep this on the front page until "we the people" are satisfied one way or the other.Anything less is derilection of duty.
Mr. Dodd needs to prove himself innocent because,so far,he has only proven himself guilty.

I am 100% in agreement with you.

And, by extension, the American public should demmand that BHO release his original birth certificate and college records.

Why won't BHO do this?

For the same reason why Senator Dodd has not released his mortgage documents.

Just to add to that, Bob Rubin has fought for years to prevent regulation of the derivatives markets that helped Lehman, Bear, et al, as well as the economy.

But his most egregious violation of the public trust was when he went from repealing Glass-Steagle while at Treasury to collecting huge sums of money from CITI, one of the greatest beneficiaries of rolling back these laws.

Too bad our Senator from CT wasn't around to keep an eye on things in DC back then. Oh yeah, he was.

The senator thinks that if he stalls long enough the VIP treatment will be forgotten. That's how it has always been for a son of a senator. As a senator's son he has been entitled to special treatment and he takes it as a given that he should always receive the treatment. Wait in line for a restaurant table, a seat on an airplane, or a mortgage? Not for our senator. He was born with a silver spoon in his mouth and hemakes sure that you don't forget that.

At this point, Dodd has so overshadowed this issue with his refusal to come clean, that even if he did, it would be too late. The longer he waits, the more it looks like he has something to hide.

I recently had the chance to ask Mr. Dodd, to his face, what Countrywide did for him...I was out late, having a few adult beverages, in a Bar where Dodd was doing the same thing...I don't know what Dodd was drinking, but I had consumed a couple of Jacks. After a Jack or two, I have been known to do things like call the White House and the Pentagon. The buzz amongst the other Patrons in the bar, a bar that is within spitting distance to Dodds East Haddam house, was all about the Countrywide Scandal, and speculation as to whom Dodd thinks he is trying to spend tax dollars on Bailouts, when Dodd himself has no credentials showing he is qualified to be making such decisions...He has never run a business, and as far as I can tell, has never really amassed any wealth due to financial talent or accumen.

Dodds response that evening, was to sputter and stutter that "Countrywide hadn't done a Damn thing for me"...Instead of thanking me for being a concerned citizen, his brother Nick, and some other groupie follwed me out to the Parking lot of the establishment, barking that they would find a way to get me...We keep looking for the boogeyman, but I doubt even the blusterbuss Dodd has the power to summon the Boogeyman.

When someone occupies a position of power due to the fact that he has simply managed to have accumulated Seniority, rather than productivity, it shows that there is a problem with our Political system. But morre important, anytime someone is given the privilage of serving in elected office, especially in the Senate, they should be a person of incomparable integrity. What we've seen of late, is an acceptance of questionable integrity on the National Stage. Geitner, running the IRS when he couldn't master his own taxes and has shown impunity towards the Law?

Tom Daschle? Over $100,000.00 in unpaid taxes and they're still pushing his nomination to a Cabinet position? Especially Health care where fraud is already a rampant problem!

Holder, helping issue Pardons that were clearly questionable and shouldn't have been given?

Chris Dodd, it is clear by now, that he is hiding something and will continue to thumb his nose at the voter, and the Law!

It is cllear, that Democrats, have a double standard. One for us, and one for them. Even Obama, has a list of questionable transactions where either he, or his wife, benefitted significantly from his elected office. He still has the brass to tell us that no special interest donated to his campaign!

Daily Horoscope for June 4

Relationships have been going through through testing times since the Solar Eclipse at last month's New Moon in Gemini on May 20. Events may force you to reevaluate the state of a partnership. You may even decide that you need to make some major adjustments if things are to carry on as you would like. During the coming fortnight leading up to the rare second New Moon in Gemini, this may feel like a crisis, but that doesn't mean you should abandon all hope or throw out the baby with the bathwater.
