Really? The current average cost per kilowatt hour produced at American nuclear plants is 1.7 cents and coal-fired is 1.8 cents. Oil and gas average 6.0 cents per kilowatt hour. So, why are BGE consumers currently paying nearly 12 cents per kilowatt at the deregulated "market rate". Before deregulation we used to pay about 7 cents per kilowatt. Could someone explain this? Could you explain why "red" states that have state-regulated, state-owned, and municipal utilities (Montana, North Dakota, Kentucky, Nebraska, etc.) have lower utility rates (5 to 7 cents per kilowatt) than those operating as deregulated free market interstate monopolies(California, New York, Florida) which charge between 8 and 14 cents per kilowatt? Please explain.

You are paying the cost for transmission. If your house was connected directly to these plants, your argument would be legit. The problem is that Maryland does not have enough capacity, therefore are forced into paying to have the transmission from other places around the U.S. Same for Cali, NY, etc.....nobody lives in Montana, Dakotas....

WRONG. Try again.

"Long-distance transmission of electricity (thousands of miles) is cheap and efficient, with costs of US$ 0.005 to 0.02 per kilowatt-hour (compared to annual averaged large producer costs of US$ 0.01 to US$ 0.025 per kilowatt-hour, retail rates upwards of US$ 0.10 per kilowatt-hour, and multiples of retail for instantaneous suppliers at unpredicted highest demand moments)."

They haven't built enough transmission lines into this state to keep up with demand. Every summer they have to limit the two lines from the West during peak demand periods to prevent them from becoming overloaded. Cheap tranmission does you no good if you don't have the capability.

Daily Horoscope for June 4

Aquarius

The emotional atmosphere is quite potent under this Lunar Eclipse, evoking a sense of crisis. The problems you've been experiencing with a certain person lately come to a head during the next fortnight, making you feel that you have to take drastic action or lay down the law. Yet this could make the situation worse than ever, especially if you act from a sense of panic or desperation. Take things gently and don't throw your weight around unless it's absolutely necessary.
